Lol. They played a lot of zone against UVA and UF when we were healthy.

This is just excuses.
Um. Okay? I’m not sure what UF and UVA have to do with anything. We play zone because we don’t trust our guys in man. That’s been well documented. Nothing you said refutes that. No one is making an excuse. It’s simply a reason we don’t play man.

You’re attempting to engage in an argument when there isn’t one to be had.

Isn’t there a chance that even when healthy we still don’t have the talent necessary to play defense like the coaches want?
Depends on whether a poster is pro or con Hadden (he was hated before he was loved), pro or con Banks, pro or con WM, or if it fits the narrative of the moment. Will need more info.

And as has been discussed, it’s been three years and we have 17 or 18 DBs on scholarship now. If none can play, then it’s a recruiting problem. If it’s not talent, then it’s a coaching problem.

Most of those 17-18 aren’t pure CBs. Our starters were basically Hadden, who many fans wanted kicked off the team, GJL, and Burrell. Slaughter is playing out of position. We have had major scholarship reductions and have missed on several of our top targets there. We were playing walk ons and special teams guys in key situations. Trying to simplify it to only a coaching problem or recruiting problem doesn’t address all the other factors.

I agree though, I wish we could have landed some of the high school guys or transfers that we missed on. I wish the roster turnover could have happened quicker too. But as has been discussed, there’s some good talent in the pipeline.

Using stats for a corner lol
I have always been curious. If using stats doesn’t work, then how do you judge whether or not a CB had a good or bad year? I mean is it by the eye test? If so, GJL didn’t have a good year. It was decent, but nowhere near what we expected imo. Dude is a very experienced player. I have a feeling he regressed under Martinez and that’s not shocking.

Not judging him but we can’t afford to take projects especially if they have red flag attitudes at this point. I would rather save the scholarship than just throw a body at it. We don’t need drama, we need ball players. GBO

We don’t play man coverage, so what does that matter???
Because our old guys can't.

So we're getting a bunch of dudes that can.
Ricky Gibson
Kaleb Beasley
All 3 CBs from 2025
And supposedly this kid. I hope so, because he's average at Zone Coverage.

It’s the eye test but without having the benefit of seeing all 22 players during telecast we don’t have access to enough information to make a good assessment. We only see a CB when the ball is thrown his way. And if a CB is good, the ball doesn’t go his way often.

I answered this very question for you last season.

You must really not be paying attention to any of the words I ever type.

Yeah and that was before Hadden took a major step forward to the point they trusted him. But whatever. I really don’t care and love how invested some are in thinking all the issues this year fall on banks. It was a joint effort.

I don’t think it’s all on Banks. I think many share blame. I don’t think the LBs or DBs look well coached. Only unit that does is the DL. I hope a massive influx of talent fixes a lot and that is our issue. I just want us to be dominant and great once again.
