In one thread you talk about NOT referencing the spring game.

Now you're referencing it to strengthen your "non-issue" point of a weak WR room.

Which is it??
A great performance at the Spring game doesn’t always mean a player is going to be a stud (see Jack Jancek in 2021) but an underwhelming showing in a spring game for someone that isn’t a true freshman usually isn’t a good sign

Lol Webb, Nimrod and Leacock haven't played a down in an actual game, but how dare they not torch a bunch of 4th and 5th year SEC DB's in a spring game 🤣
They were actually going up against a lot of freshman plus backups from last year. Burrell, Hadden, and Slaughter didn’t play IIRC. I know one thing though, Ethan Davis sure did show out. Also the wording in your last line makes it seem as if our secondary is elite or even 3/4 of the pack. When in reality they were the bottom feeders of college football last year

Yeah. He did. He had stone hands. His route running was undisciplined. He couldn't get separation. And until last year... his attitude and work ethic held him back. That's according to Heupel and Hyatt himself.

He wasn't garbage. He played almost exclusively in garbage time. In three years, he caught passes in 6 games. Akron 2-20, Pitt 3-59, TTU 1-27, UF 1-3, Auburn 1-6, Vandy 1-14. I was actually disappointed that he or Holliday weren't able to step up and earn PT. They didn't. It wasn't just one mistake that kept him off the field. UT had better options.

I liked him and especially since he had a rapport with Milton. But supposedly he had some personal and health issues and chose a change in venue. He was looking up at better players and wanted to play sooner. That is going to happen in the portal era.

That's because you lack the wisdom to think about last year as it looked on June 13, 2022. They had Tillman and no one else who had proven they could compete in the SEC including Hyatt. Talent is a hard call but that's not what I said. I said "strongest". They have more guys with the talent to play and contribute. They have guys who know the system. They return two guys who have performed against top talent. I don't know anything about Thornton except the excitement the staff seemed to have about him. Leacock is very talented and had moments in the spring. In spite of you lifting your leg on them, Nimrod and Webb are guys that according to reports show a lot of promise.

It isn't just the bodies but also the maturity of the program itself.

Tillman wasn't healthy. I have no idea about Thornton except that the coaches and beat writers were pretty excited by what they saw. Velus Jones had 280 yds his first year at UT under Pruitt. A career high at the time. Payton was even worse transferring in. Tillman had a grand total of 8 catches before Heupel.

If Thornton can play, Heupel will get him the ball.

That's so dumb. Truly it is. You are viewing "past tense" performance vs potential. You have to look at apples to apples. At this time last year, it was Tillman. There was some excitement about McCoy. But not much for Hyatt who again... was a bust to that point.

Again... LOL... if you go back to this point last year and look forward it was WORSE, not better.
I was actually extremely excited about Hyatt. I didn’t think he would have the type of season he did, and would torch Bama for 5 TDs, but I knew we had something with him solely off of his play late in 2021 and what we saw his freshman year. He also received a lot of praise from Golesh in the off-season as did both Jimmys. I think our top 4 this year are about the same as our top 4 last year and could potentially be better, but we only have 4 scholarship WRs on the roster with college experience. That is not what anyone would consider good depth by any stretch of the imagination

I thought Webb looked good, as did Seldon who will start with the RBs and could be used in the slot.

Oh absolutely, I'm excited to watch Seldon play. I didn't even think about him as WR, I'm sure he will get plenty of touchs running and receiving. This offense has some burners in White, Thornton,Seldon,Sampson etc.

Austin and Matt— out of all of our current uncommitted targets, who will Boos commitment most help with?
Mike Matthews and Boo go back to their younger days of playing AAU basketball against each other. Little competitive friendship built there. I think if TN lands him, he helps a bunch across the board. He’s not afraid to be vocal and recruit.

Its a fair thing to worry about, but the staff has done a good job with Bru Mccoy who was also continuously looking for a new home.
I also think the 2nd highschool he went to was a basketball move and he knew he couldnt play football there due to distance, but I'm not completely sure about that. The first move something happened, but it didn't scare any college coaches away.
