'19 TN DL Bill Norton

The last time I checked it wasn’t signing day

True, this staff has plenty of time... people reading into my posts too much. I’m. It freaking out. Just pointing to the fact that recruiting isn’t going well right now.

I guess Pruitt could take a few diamonds in the rough early like Butch always did and then cut them loose in November, would that be better? I guess at least we'd be ranked in the top 15 right now.

It sucks to lose instate kids we wanted, no doubt about it. But the fact is that Pruitt inherited another Tennessee dumpster fire and this time it seems selling hope and playing time might not work as well. I'm sure Kirby, Saban, Dabo and others are saying the same thing, "UT has been selling that line of 'help us build it back and win!' for over a decade now and it's not working, why not come here and ACTUALLY win championships?"

4-8 UT is hard to sell when you're recruiting the top athletes in America. Pruitt will get his share but he won't get most of the guys he wants until these kids see results on the field. It's going to be very important to win 7+ this fall to finish Top 15 in recruiting in '19 and beyond. Which is why Pruitt is going after grad transfers and JUCO's. He knows he better make a bowl game this year if he wants to compete with the big boys for recruits.

Simple as that, IMO

So I guess one of two things happened:

1. Kirby forces a commitment coming off the UT visit.
2. Norton straight up played us and lied to the VQ guys.

Eh idk. I’m kind of guessing Norton had his mind made up before visiting us and just wanted to give Pruitt and our staff an opportunity to give their pitch.

And the optimistic view of on the field results this fall...if Pruitt finds a way to exceed expectations and win, say, 9 regular season games this fall...recruiting will explode.

In March and April of 2017 Dawg fans were sideways because Cox was going to OhioState and Fields to PennState. If Pruitt and Co win..."kids" will want to join.. but that midseason 6 game grind is going to challenge the 2019 class

“Great day with the staff. Brought family and girlfriend up to Knoxville. Says UGA and TN are the top two because how each staff recruits him. Pruitt has made it clear to him how much he is wanted and needed here.”

Price

It’s just a matter of ti... wait... what??!!

Agree. The scenario that always made the most sense was for him to visit Tennessee and meet the new staff before making a decision.

Just don't see it even with orange glasses on 8 tops and that pushing it

Bottom line is Kirby is snake oil salesman who has good results...this coming from uga friends......hes dirty negative recruits better than everyone but Saban and he pressures kids to commit. Dawg fans don't care about any of it as long as their winning....this is more about precious staff completely disrespecting he and his family by not even knowing they offered. Same with olineman last year....sometimes it's not ohhh uga so great as it is we crapped in our bed and now having to lay in it

Tennessee does normally recruit in the top 20 but how many of those recruits are from the state of Tennessee. The recruits in Tennessee are getting better but most classes are out of state kids. The in state kids better get on board or Pruitt want waste much time recruiting them.

To answer your question (since I'd already looked earlier) we usually have to recruit out of state to do well. My friend and I were comparing in state talent in Georgia and in Tennessee. UGA's three year running average of players being from in state is about 65%. Tennessee's is roughly 27.5%, with the lowest in the 3 being 2016 (13.04% or 3 out of 23 players).

That being said, the state has really begun producing more talent in recent years

2016: 0 5* 8 4*
2017: 3 5* 6 4*
2018: 1 5* 10 4*
2019: 0 5* 19 4* (subject to change)

Give me the best. Ill take some North Carolina kids over anybody in Tennessee right now. Once they move and enroll here guess what? They become Tennessee kids.

I'm with you on that one. I don't care where they come from. I do think perception of controlling your state is important, but winning with the best athletes possible is far and away above perception.

Said no UGA fan, ever. Kirby's a good man, a good HC, and a good recruiter. His players love him. That's why so many seniors stayed last season rather than jumping to the NFL. You don't have to be a "snake oil salesman" and "dirty" to recruit at UGA. You just have to do what all of our other coaches since Vince Dooley haven't done, get the best players in the state to buy in and get some others from outside of Georgia to join in.

Nothing "dirty" about it. He's just doing his job well.

Check out other schools commit lists. We are way behind. Don’t try to sugar coat this. Pruitt and Co have their work cut out for them and so far their losing on the recruiting trail. No wonder they can’t wait for Spring practice to start

It's only March, so there's very little to worry about at this point. If we are still sitting with a few committs in Late summer and Early fall then I'll start to worry. This time last year Butch was winning on the recruiting trail and we see how that ended up. Ala has 4 committs, Auburn has 2, Fla has 5,Clemson, Texas and ND have 3, Ohio St and Penn St have 2. Right now Ole Miss, TCU, BYU and Duke have top 15 classes. We all know that won't be the case come December and February. Wisconsin is #3 and they haven't finished higher than #32 in over a decade and doubt they will this yr either. Point is that it doesn't matter where you are in March in the recruiting rankings.

Totally agree with this synopsis.

CMR never had a top 10 class. Took Kirby to come along for it to happen. Try again.

I'd like to buy a vowel Pat, a "U"

CMR never made it to the playoffs and coached a NC game. It's not that hard to have a top 10 recruiting class in one of the top 5 recruiting hot beds in the country. But you have to motivate them to want to win once they get on campus as well. Kirby does both better than CMR.

Kirby will never be confused for being a good man. I was talking to some GA fans at Media Days a few yrs ago, Kirby's first year and most said he is a doucher. He walked by the GA fans many times and never once acknowledged them and they were pissed about it. He was more focused on talking to any media person he could find. Obviously winning can make you more tolerable but one thing Kirby isn't is a good man. I bleed orange but I know Fulmer was far from a good man himself but it was tolerable because he won and could recruit. He's definitely a good recruiter but so was Richt. It's very easy to recruit to GA, Richt did it very well but he never fully capitalized on the talent he had. Recruiting is a cutthroat part of college football and Kirby is doing it as well as anybody. He won with majority Richt players and tons of experience. I'll be curious what he does with his own players and much lesser experience. GA is the hot name right now and Kirby is taking advantage of it in recruiting. Pruitt will recruit well here and so will his staff. His players have always loved him and loved playing for him so I'm not worried about that part either. Hopefully JP can even the playing field with GA sooner than later and it will make for some great football games in the next few yrs, along with Fla.
