True, this staff has plenty of time... people reading into my posts too much. Im. It freaking out. Just pointing to the fact that recruiting isnt going well right now.
So I guess one of two things happened:
1. Kirby forces a commitment coming off the UT visit.
2. Norton straight up played us and lied to the VQ guys.
Agree. The scenario that always made the most sense was for him to visit Tennessee and meet the new staff before making a decision.
Tennessee does normally recruit in the top 20 but how many of those recruits are from the state of Tennessee. The recruits in Tennessee are getting better but most classes are out of state kids. The in state kids better get on board or Pruitt want waste much time recruiting them.
To answer your question (since I'd already looked earlier) we usually have to recruit out of state to do well. My friend and I were comparing in state talent in Georgia and in Tennessee. UGA's three year running average of players being from in state is about 65%. Tennessee's is roughly 27.5%, with the lowest in the 3 being 2016 (13.04% or 3 out of 23 players).
That being said, the state has really begun producing more talent in recent years
2016: 0 5* 8 4*
2017: 3 5* 6 4*
2018: 1 5* 10 4*
2019: 0 5* 19 4* (subject to change)
Give me the best. Ill take some North Carolina kids over anybody in Tennessee right now. Once they move and enroll here guess what? They become Tennessee kids.
Bottom line is Kirby is snake oil salesman who has good results...this coming from uga friends......hes dirty negative recruits better than everyone but Saban and he pressures kids to commit. Dawg fans don't care about any of it as long as their winning....this is more about precious staff completely disrespecting he and his family by not even knowing they offered. Same with olineman last year....sometimes it's not ohhh uga so great as it is we crapped in our bed and now having to lay in it
Check out other schools commit lists. We are way behind. Dont try to sugar coat this. Pruitt and Co have their work cut out for them and so far their losing on the recruiting trail. No wonder they cant wait for Spring practice to start
It sucks to lose instate kids we wanted, no doubt about it. But the fact is that Pruitt inherited another Tennessee dumpster fire and this time it seems selling hope and playing time might not work as well. I'm sure Kirby, Saban, Dabo and others are saying the same thing, "UT has been selling that line of 'help us build it back and win!' for over a decade now and it's not working, why not come here and ACTUALLY win championships?"
4-8 UT is hard to sell when you're recruiting the top athletes in America. Pruitt will get his share but he won't get most of the guys he wants until these kids see results on the field. It's going to be very important to win 7+ this fall to finish Top 15 in recruiting in '19 and beyond. Which is why Pruitt is going after grad transfers and JUCO's. He knows he better make a bowl game this year if he wants to compete with the big boys for recruits.
Simple as that, IMO
Said no UGA fan, ever. Kirby's a good man, a good HC, and a good recruiter. His players love him. That's why so many seniors stayed last season rather than jumping to the NFL. You don't have to be a "snake oil salesman" and "dirty" to recruit at UGA. You just have to do what all of our other coaches since Vince Dooley haven't done, get the best players in the state to buy in and get some others from outside of Georgia to join in.
Nothing "dirty" about it. He's just doing his job well.

CMR never had a top 10 class. Took Kirby to come along for it to happen. Try again.
