'20 TN DT Omari Thomas (UT SIGNEE)

This all started over someone taking the fatally flawed position that recruiting rankings don’t really mean anything and are just guesses.

Not about the recent win streak the team is on, which has been nothing but fun to watch.

I agree we'll have to eventually pull in some top talent to beat the top teams.
Completely disagree Pruitt "has" to do it next year. Can't find anything in TN history to suggest that.

Jones wasn't fired for only winning 9 games, we'd probably be looking at his purple face tomorrow had he been able to do that.
Fulmer was going to get extended for 8 (different situation but nothing to suggest he would have been with a string of 9)

Leads us all the way back to Majors. Believe he was here 8 years before ever hitting more than 9. Fewer games but most of his years were well below 9.

We could say "different times" or "Phil had goodwill" but either way, there's no precedent in our history to suggest we would pull the trigger, anytime soon, at 9 wins a season.

If Pruitt is the guy we all hope he is, he’ll have it rolling next year.

If he doesn’t it, it will not be a good sign. I don’t know how anyone can argue otherwise.

Omari Thomas is at Auburn this weekend and after talking to him earlier this week, Thomas has eliminated Ole Miss. Texas A&M and Auburn join the Vols with the Aggies and Vols ahead going into this weekends trip to the plains. Thomas loves the entire Tennessee staff and speaks with different members on a daily basis.

AU is gonna get this kid, unless TAMU outbids them. I don't believe our staff is the problem...I think our "unsanctioned Vol business" guys just don't understand how badly we need guys like OT and Hardy on the LoS. It obviously just means more to AUs guys.

But then again it ain't my money.

Why would anybody like this post? Heck...I wrote it, and I hate it.

Do you always ramble on with nonsensical cliches?

You think Pruitt is going to be given a 7 year leash like Dabo got? Ok.....

And I wasn’t trying to hold Clemson up as a “blueprint”. You brought them up as someone doing something different ala Auburn.

And maybe you missed what Phil was doing, or you just have no idea what you’re talking about. Fulmer was recruiting at an Elite level from Day One. Landed the Top QB in his 2nd class.

Also went 10-2 in his FIRST year. So don’t try and push some revisionist history that it was a long slow build. It wasn’t.
Fulmer took over a program that had won 3 SEC championships in the last 6 years. Not sure Fulmer’s record against Florida was any better than Majors’ against Bama. It still took Fulmer 5 years with a loaded program to win his first SEC Championship appearance. And he almost lost that one with the best QB in college football.

So, you are saying that our program is not illegitimate enough? As a former academic student this pisses me off. These schemes need to be exposed, especially when these players are complaining about not being paid. This privileged athlete status needs to stop. Or, they need to create semi-pro or farm leagues like baseball.

I always go back to the GA state game. Where would we be recruiting wise today if we won that game?

Or is the problem our recruiters?

Or not being dirty enough ($) ?

It's not our recruiters, and I don't neccesarily consider it "dirty"...

I just don't think our "unsanctioned unofficial money guys" are as committed as Awbarns "unsanctioned unofficial money guys" to getting who the staff wants consistently.

Gonna guess there's a different reason for each individual? Fairly certain Hardy was all in, along with a few others, after GS.
Can't point to that game for those.
And if kids were in to begin with, recruiters are less likely *with those*.

As far as "benefits", if I'm not contributing, I don't have the right to complain. Don't get to tell others they need to cough up more for what I want.

I agree with you..it's not my money, but it sucks that it doesn't seem to mean as much to ours, as it does to them...Bamas guys and now UGAs guys are too.

That Bama system is truly legendary. I'm not sure Ga has to go above the norm, even Saban called that the best/easiest job in all of FB. Plus there's just more in the Atlanta area, quantity alone..

Really hurts that Pruitt is credited with getting them the changes they needed. Ouch.

It takes years to get that system running smoothly. Much like our football team it has had to be built back from the ground up. Many sources for the grease for the gears had moved away. Some are returning but it takes time.

Also, everybody is paying so it comes down to success on the field and potential to prepare a player for the big money at the next level. Some schools we are losing recruits to have a better recent track record. Our recruiting pitch is currently "It's coming, patience." Their recruiting pitch is "Compare the last couple of drafts." Some recruits see it, some don't.

Now that Ole Piss is out of it I believe he will be a Vol, you obviously have to worry about a visit to Auburn but they haven’t really been a factor in his recruitment (unlike Hardy) and their mods don’t seem overly confident. Sounds like an opportunity to visit a big time game IMO.
