'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

Lol...the announcer on the high school game I am watching was commenting on a DL being out of breath. Said people were making comments about Clowney being like that his first game. He said it didn't matter what you did in the summer you would be like that in the first game. Have no idea if he knows what he is talking about, but I think he knows more than fans standing on the sidelines.

If he has an off game he might be the 5th ranked player in the nation instead of the first. Catastrophic.

Coming off a 3-7 season. Brand new coaching staff. Massive attrition unlike we have ever seen. NCAA investigation. And we might very well land one of the top 10 players in the country.

Catastrophic indeed 😎

How am I ignorant? 17% of 5* become first rounders. I'd say the percentage of 5* recruits who become first rounders and who didn't take it seriously enough to be in shape for their season is considerably lower than the already relatively low 17%. Argue with the numbers. See if you can keep ad hominem attacks out of it and rather rebut the point made.

You are ignorant because you are using nothing but conjecture for your so called critiques. You are trying to make these points after 1 game. One game. There is no reason to argue your point or debate it.

You just said in this post, I’d say. That invalidates your arguments. Keep trying though.

You can get too pumped up and gas out also with first game jitters. I wouldn’t stress about it. It’s an old guy, who remembers only the best parts of when he played football that is making a big deal about it. Maybe he is out of shape a little but maybe he has been busy moving, visiting schools and trying to get used to a new life. Time will tell but some guy rambling for days trying to win an internet argument is pretty pathetic.

I'm moving on from my criticism of his one game. I'll grant anyone the right to write it off as a one game fluke. That's fine.

The other point I've been arguing is not about one single game, but rather the mentality of a kid to be ready at the beginning of the season.

Only 17% of 5* recruits become first rounders. What percentage of that 17% show up to their season out of shape and overweight? I'd say most of the 5* who end up getting picked first round are intrinsically motivated and take it seriously enough (even when they're 17) to show up ready to play. Nolen didn't do that. Will he defy the odds? Maybe. But he didn't do himself any favors, and he has increased the likelihood of becoming a bust (because 5* recruits are notoriously boom or bust).

Notorious in HS football Twitter for years. Makes super cookie cutter commit edits for players on his phone, but became THE guy to get those edits from. All the top players were asking him. He became so integrated in the recruiting world LSU offered him a spot on the recruiting staff when he graduated HS (he’s from Louisiana). He ended up not doing that but is now on staff at On3. Bad designer, but very nice kid.
I'm not liking this Hayes Fawcett very much atm.

Right now, he's about the only 5* we have a shot at, so let's hope he lives up to the billing.

That's fine. I agree with the people who say we need him if for no other reason that the perception of landing a big name in our own backyard. And I'll hope I'm wrong about him, but in my estimation, he's off to a bad start if he wants to be a "boom" rather than a "bust".
