I think this is hyperbole but there is a grain of truth here. For years we recruited well because we had a huge budget and spared no expense. NIL changed the landscape of recruiting and we must adjust accordingly.Look guys y’all are still stuck in this NCAA way of thinking this is highest bidder and take care of my family future type of recruiting.. These type of schools are playing chess while Tennessee still playing checkers
Look up how many transfers they have taken each year Mullen has been there and you'll realize how bad your argument is. It might average out to two guys per year. Not enough to impact the team in the same way as grabbing 5-6 guys from the portal in one year. FYI...the portal has been around for about a year...impossible to blame it for Florida's troubles.Look at Florida, relying on the transfer portal hurts in the long run.
My understanding is Charlie doesn't give much to athletics. Big Jim is the Haslam who has always donated to athletics. Not sure how much Jim Jr. and Bill give. We have pockets to draw from, but someone needs to do some convincing to get them to open up.Yes Charles Ergen and Jim, Jimmy, and Bill Haslam are multibillionaires. Yet some Vol fans think we don't have deep pockets.
The portal is going to cause more trouble than good.Regardless of a base which yes we do need. We need a lot of portal help.
I know they give to many UT projects. Also Jim Clayton is a graduate that gives lots to UT. My only point was why use the excuse of other schools having deep pockets when UT has quite a bit themselves. My understanding is Charlie doesn't give much to athletics. While posting about all of our boosters and big money donors. I always find it shocking that no one mentions any of the guys who post here that supposedly are on the inside and tell the administration what ThEy ReAllY tHiNk….
Other schools have more open pockets. That's the difference. It's not about how deep they are, but how willing they are to part with some of that money.I know they give to many UT projects. They have lots of rich guys, but Tennessee counts like 3 billionaires among their alumnus, I believe. Saw it in a Forbes article. That's not too shabby. But like I said, part of the problem is getting the guys that have the money to give the money. Other schools are having an easier time with that.We only have 3 or 4 guys of that level, A&M has dozens.
Meh, forgot about that dude. Good point though, the other guy who brags about his involvement in the university usually gets ignored and glossed over. So that’s pretty telling, imo.I mean the one guy who everyone knows does donate and is active with the University y’all told to GIT so now we just get random things from @ob79 from said individual.
Self inflicted IMO
