Not the point.
You can't say instate recruiting doesn't matter if you aren't recruiting well outside the state. In state recruiting matters because they should be the easiest kids to recruit. If you aren't getting better else where, you better be getting in state talent.

It seems most of the time that instate kids are overrated on their rankings.

You say easiest I say in state kid are most likely to want to leave the state and have a new experience. That is why you recruit regionally, get those kids that want something different.

Everyone we don't get is overrated, everyone we do get is underrated. It's quite simple. Seriously, folks are burning unnecessary brain cells trying to read the tea leaves about recruiting this year. Nothing that happens this year is indicative of whether this staff can or can't croot. It will be that way at least until the sanctions are announced. It sucks, but that's the lay of the land. Our current coaching staff is in a very deep hole, that they did not dig. This arsehole did:

Seeing this picture has caused me to leave work for the excessive bile built up in my system. Thanks.

There have been some who were likely over rated, but there have also been some who were absolutely great. Doug Atkins, Al Wilson, John Henderson, Andy Kelly, Trey Teague, Johnny Majors, , etc are only a few of many who have excelled in college and pro football.

I remember when people used to post it like it was a good thing. I despise Pruitt more than any of our other prior coaches. I really didn't think that was possible.

You named 6...in 130 yrs of playing football at UT. I'll give you 200 more (being generous)...206...in 130 yrs of playing football.

Georgia has that in 3 to 4 cycles.

Just wait for next year in state class. We still going to land Horton, Miller, and Pope in-state

I don’t care if we ever land any of the top players in the state. That type of thinking is flawed. You think Day, Saban, Smart or Dabo worry about locking down their state? Nope. They get the best players they can. Get the best players you can from wherever you can.

Agreed. The reason this is a huge 2022 disappointment is that we aren’t on many high level kids at all out of state. With the mess we are in, in state was viewed as our best chance. At this point we are focused on some out of state guys that aren’t being recruited by top half of the conference at all.

They’ll def take a stepback offensively. If their defense isn’t solid, they’ll probably lose 3-4 games. This is a year we COULD beat them.
Um, they lost 4 games last year with their best offense in UF history...and a historical bad defense. UT absolutely has a shot at UF this year especially if UT can gain confidence. The schedule is set up perfect, easy wins until the UF game.

UF fans wanted Grantham gone, just like Louisville and Georgia fans when he was with them.

That’s what I’m looking forward to. If we can somehow knock them off, that’ll help greatly with confidence and recruiting.

I'm not sure I could personally call a kid crazy for passing up the current position the University of Tennessee is in. Garner is great, but there are a lot of great DL coaches at schools that aren't facing sanctions or going through another coaching transition.
Thought I’d ask coz I seem to be missing it. How would a school facing sanctions affect a kid that’s in school, getting paid, fed, coached up? Wouldn’t sanctions affect the school more than the top kid getting that scholarship?

it just occured. TN will get a punishment for paying players, all while paying players, legit. That is the most TN thing ever.

Maybe he wants to go to a bowl game, or the playoffs. Sanctions would prevent that. Maybe he wants to play with a bunch of other great players. Scholarship reductions could prevent that.
Lots of reasons why a school facing sanctions would cause a player to look elsewhere.
