'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

If you were talking about a small school in a weak conference then your analysis would be correct. But thats not the case. This is TN. A big time school in a big time conference. Its completely valid to say the administration at TN doesnt want to win. And there is proof.

2008 the move is made to run Fulmer out of town. You can agree or disagree that it was time, but thats not the point. Now understand at that time we were still very relevant on the national scene. We won the East the previous year. So the search for a HC began. Now we know that Gary Patterson was ready to take the job at TN. A proven winner and a good hC. Yet what happened? Lane Kiffin. A guy who had never coached in college football before and bombed in the NFL was hired. Now if the administration really cared about winning, they would have done what was necessary to hire Patterson.

Next up was ol Doofus. After Kiffin bolts in the middle of the night like a scared kid, the administration freaked out and hired a proven loser. Now, Kiffin went 7-6. While not good, not really terrible either. Our teams were competitive. So it stands to reason that we were still relatively relevant going into 2010. Yet instead of doing what an administration concerned with winning would do, TN did the opposite. Then we start spiraling down.

Now to Botch Jones. At this point, the administration couldnt really be blamed for hiring Botch. After all, he was a winner at Central Michigan and Cincy. And to be fair, we had fallen way out of relevancy. But still, its hard to imagine that with our reputation and resources that we couldnt have gotten someone better. Botch was hired on the cheap just like Pruitt. And we see the results. The bottom line is if the TN adminstration truly wanted to have a winning football program, we would. Its that simple. Talk about money? TN still makes a bunch of money. But what we do make would pale in comparison to what we would make if the football program was balling at an elite level.

So no the TN administration does not want to win. The coaching hires since Fulmer reiterate and reinforce that statement.

This is a decent synopsis, but you’re missing a couple things. The program began its decline in 2002. Dickey was gone and Schumaker became president. There are interviews of boosters reporting that at this time Fulmer began telling them that he was unable to “get his guys in.” Apparently, the new administration had an academic bent and didn’t think some of the football practices were necessary.

This trend continued for quite a while... through butch jones. It wasn’t until chancellor Davenport and dipietro were fired that things really changed. Randy Boyd is a really good business man. Phillip Fulmer is a VFL who knows what it takes to succeed. The administration issues have been corrected. Now we have to fix the football team. That’s why this time around is different from Kiffin, or Dooley, or Jones.

This administration wants to win. You won’t convince me otherwise. Perhaps bringing a **** storm of a program from the brink of irrelevancy to the top tier of the SEC is difficult. Who knew?

From poster on VQ:

Ty was decked out in UT gear tonight at Westview’s game. Talked to someone I know from Martin. He heard that Ty wanted to be the QB that leads Tennessee back to prominence. The leader and face of the program is what he said. Also he had heard he might go to IMG because he took such a beating last year. He was in a walking boot tonight.

I hope you are right about the Administration being committed to the relevancy of UT football. They can confirm this by firing Pruitt ASAP.

I know y'all don't want to hear this but, Ty has a great head on his shoulders. He looks at all the pizazz at Clemson and sees Smoke and Mirrors, Carnival atmosphere.

Pruitt has done a helluva job to keep us in this race. Kinda nice to see a throwback mindset where someone takes pride in their State, wants to make a lifelong impression and build a legacy versus just be a plug and play guy.

Again. The nega crowd won’t have this. They’ll be “top flight players wanna play at top flight programs because reasons”.... I’ve felt this way about Ty every time I listen to him in an interview. 🤷‍♂️

we, perenially have number one or top 5 recruiting budget

Obv not. Explain the last 15 years
That's been the problem for a long time. They've pretty much maxed out revenue while maintaining really low expenses. While weve brought in similar dollars as Alabama, our football budget has been about 1/2 making us more profitable than Bama. They like it that way. Not much incentive to invest in an expensive coach that will demand even more of a budget. Now, if the revenue declines that changes things. In the past they've known you could trot out coach McGoogle and Tennessee fans being Tennessee fans would go all in and fix the revenue issue, at least for 3-4 years. Question is, do Tennessee fans go all in on another coach McGoogle or do they say screw it, I'm done?

Tennessee has at least over the last decade, emphasised the pageantry around Tennessee football, neglecting the part where you're suppose to win games. The product on the field has suffered in exchange for facility upgrades, stadium upgrades, TV studios, etc.

Disclaimer: the expense to revenue numbers I mentioned were from memory and were from a couple of years ago. I'm assuming that it's still the same but I recognize that Fulmer/Pruitt have spent a lot more money recently.

From a 731 Vol Fan, Ty is the best chance for a return to prominence. Well coached, great mechanics and a cannon of a arm. Ty stay home and lead the Big Orange Nation 🍊

Ty is a great player. And he can definitely be a part of that return.

But you don't think Harrison Bailey can be the guy?

Ty is saving Pruitts job right now. Pruitt is selling to Fulmer that he will be a Vol and other big time players will follow him.
Btw that is completely made up but a theory I’m going with.

Watch out for the vitriol and venom from the nega crowd
Does the potential of the one time transfer rule help UT at all with Ty? Meaning he can come here for a year or two and if he and/or the team doesn’t develop like he believes he could transfer without having to sit out?

That’s an angle I’d not even considered, man. Good thinking
