'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

UGA was on the OL. KY was all JG. JG killed this program. We had the run game, OL and WRs to be successful. Defense played good enough to win several games we lost. If Shrout doesn’t get pulled at Kay for one bad throw we probably have 2-3 more wins
JG has to get some of the blame at UGA. But UGA, Bama, UF and A&M were all better. We are getting there but we weren’t at their levels, we were still too young and need another class or two of real talent to be there. It all starts at the QB for us. Bailey has the talent to get us there. He will be much stronger and will play faster next fall. I hate we aren’t in a bowl game because that extra experience and practice would have been very valuable for him. We need to win 8 games minimum next season and I think we will. Next season will be the turning point imo and we need young men like Simpson to stay home and take over this program. I think he’s that type of QB.

I’m a big fan of Salter. It will also be first QB entire staff agreed on which is wild

Yeah, Chaney wasn’t high on Bailey I do know that. I mentioned it once during his recruitment and got hammered. So I just dropped it. I’m a Bailey fan though and think he will be a good one. Howell was the one we really blew. If we don’t get Simpson I think it will be the same kind of impact

Griddie, thank you for posting a little positivity. This board has been drowning in negativity lately. I do think 8 wins is possible next year. I hope that we are able to practice in the spring so our new comers get reps.

The narrative that Chaney wasn't high on Bailey is a bit of a myth that got spread around because UGA wasn't ever a player with Bailey. They absolutely recruited him early, but he just wasn't interested in UGA. They moved on pretty quick because of that, not because Chaney wasn't high on him.

We are really a great QB away from being very good. We need a run on QBs and really need to get Simpson for many reasons

Wow. So if we get a great QB, all of a sudden we will get an elite pass rush? Our LBs will magically know how to react in pass coverage? The DBs will learn how to defend a slant?

We are young and did a lot of good things. Our defense was on the field a lot and we gave away a lot of points due to JG. I didn’t say we would be at the elite level yet. But we will be very good. There is no way to deny we need a couple of real pass rushers off the edge. As far as coverage it seemed like our blitzes were picked up easily this season for one reason or another and put our ILB’s in a bind a lot. I don’t know if that was schematics but it’s certainly something this staff needs to get corrected

having a bad secondary kills this defense

The defense has to absolutely improve in the areas you mentioned. However, they really aren't the reason this season went south. Poor QB play led to a major regression on offense and the offense gave the defense nothing in the second half of games. You're not going to win a lot of SEC games 14-10, so even if the defense had been great...those loses would've still been loses.

I mean I’ve got some real sources on this one. And I didn’t mean he didn’t think Bailey was a good prospect. He just wasn’t as high on him as others and liked a few other QBs better. I would say it’s probably somewhere in the middle of what we both posted. I can’t wait to see how much Bailey improves. It’s the first time I’ve been excited for a IT QB in a while

I agree the problems on offense was the main issue. I just think some want to put. Little too much blame on the offense and not really blame the defense. I mean the offense has nothing to do with our inability to defend a slant

I think several injuries hurt the DBs this year. Taylor and Bryce were both suffering from hamstring injuries much of the year. Tank also had a foot injury that made him slower. He picked it up a little the last two games. I think they can be much better next year especially with Key getting more playing time.

Not drinking friend, what makes you believe in a normal year with regular practice we don’t win 8 games? Remember JG won’t be here any longer.

Some interesting points. In a normal year, I honestly don’t think JG would have won the starting job. I believe Shrout or Bailey would have won the job out right.

Line backers were horrid in coverage, never seen anything like it. Oh well, sunseri but thsts about it

Howell would have always ended up with Mack Brown at UNC. We didn’t do anything that would have prevented a flip in 2018.

But Pruitt will still be here—you know, the guy who kept trotting out one of worst UT QBs in the last 20 years.
I understand that, I am equally as frustrated about that. But we didn’t see practice. We saw shrout come in and throw a pick first pass. What if that was the norm in practice? I’m just giving the guy the benefit of the doubt that this year was a fluke caused by no practices for a vast majority of our players and an all sec schedule.
