'22 TN RB Jordan James (Oregon commit)

Did he or did he not receive an LOI from GA to sign? Is there not a 3 day window to do so? It kind of gets back to what did he know and when did he know it. The players side of these situations do impact every coach's credibility among players and with all the camps and player and family member interaction in social media it is a factor, but not necessarily a major factor. I am guessing there is a better understanding of this situation among the player community than we get through speculation on home state boards about a players committable offers.

My guess is that he did not receive a LOI from UGA. I don't necessarily like the fact it works that way, but for the first time ever I fully understand it. Players are getting paid straight out of HS (who knows, maybe while they're still in HS), per their demands. Players get a free transfer to go to the highest bidder, no questions asked, per their demands. They opt out of bowl games to prepare for the NFL. They leave school after three seasons to grab for the brass ring of instant NFL riches. The stories about young vulnerable athletes having their dreams crushed don't really get much sympathy from me anymore.

Time to grow up kids; whatever it was before, cfb is all business now. Boosters and fans are laying out hard earned cash and they want the best talent available for their money, promises and commitments notwithstanding. HS coaches, parents, handlers, are all playing this game too. No more place for poor mouthing your fate at the hands of a ruthless system, IMO.

What does any of this list of crap have to do with this coach and this kid? Kirby is getting paid too, does that make it ok for a player to take him out on a run down the sideline? Maybe time for some coaches to grow a pair and accept the risk if they are in reach along the sidelines if a friend of this player is on the field. What did Kirby know and when did he know it? Getting blindsided is getting blindsided. NOW if there was a conditional offer that would be different, but I doubt he would have hung around if that was the case. But some hard facts will eventually get out from his family and friends.

Under the new rules, HS athletes who seek to play college sports are seeking to become professionals; they may receive payment based on their name recognition and more specifically their marketable value as a member of a specific team, but they have no binding contract to that team. I'm simply stating that, as currently configured, this is a two way street and neither the team nor the prospective athlete is being taken advantage of when one side walks away at any point in time, before or after the LOI is signed. That doesn't make me feel better, or worse. Just an obvious fact.

No, but it's okay if a player decides not to sign the LOI because he got a better deal, or decides to transfer at some later date because he gets an offer to make more money elsewhere. It's okay because that's the system we have now as decreed by the courts. Free agency for professionals goes both ways. No binding contract, and therefore no obligation, moral or legal, by either party.

That is true but Ga has 10 “Rutherford County’s” in Ga. Smart isn’t going to $hit where he eats. If you’re signing with an out of state school with a lot of instate talent, you better realize you’re not their primary concern. Ask JT Daniels v
You seem to slurp over other teams while looking for reasons to crap all over anything Tennessee related. Guys like you always suck at tailgates. And no it’s not being real. You’re just a real life Debbie Downer

I just hope that whatever the TRUTH is that James shares it with the recruiting world, that next year on some key recruits we are both going after his truth can put some second thoughts in play on trusting the GA HC and staff. If he just missed the messages the truth will not be shared or damaging. Was he tricked or was he lied to? Pretty much had to be one or the other for him to be left at the altar three days into the signng period.

Lmao "per their demands." I'm amused that this reads like you think programs haven't been sh*tting on kids for generations. Now they have ability to get what they should have had all along.

Seems like one of those “anywhere but Tennessee” in state kids we seem to have so many of. If that’s really how it is, then I hope he ends up having to settle for somewhere like Georgia Southern or FIU.
So we don’t have any chance at all or don’t want

I'm all for athletes having the ability to get paid full value for their services. I just think the push to overturn college amateurism was misdirected and should have gone the other direction to re-establish true college sports amateurism. What the courts could have done is throw out the lawsuits against college athletics and allow the plaintiffs to sue any relevant professional sports leagues for monopoly/restraint of trade.

I'm definitely not defending what college athletics has become over the decades. It's a hybrid model of amateur/professional entertainment that doesn't advance education, has negative value for many student athletes, and should have never happened. In a sane world, universities would acknowledge that and fix it without prompting from the courts.

a used landcruiser from 2019 goes/was going for $100-$115K on interwebs.

HS and College kids aren't worth these prices.

Needs regulation.

Keep thinking of our super basketball player Josiah Jordan James. Well Kirby is smart to cull his injured or wishy washy recruits just like Saban. Make a business decision and move on.

Don’t you downgrade Georgia Southern! Ha! You don’t know a party like a party in the Boro….

Something is worth what a person is willing to pay for it.
That is absolutely true. However it it does not mean that we should not have rules or that someone should be forced to be "willing" to pay a particular price.

I don't like the NIL decision. I think there are good arguments against it. However here we are. We need to have rules that at a minimum establish some discipline around the portal and assure that NIL's can only be given for sound "business" reasons. If a company is paying for their "name, image, and/or likeness" then they should be using it for a business purpose.
