'25 TN RB Shekai Mills-Knight

Maybe but he's gotta show he can handle a bigger workload and stay healthy at his size so we'll see. I'd imagine they will be very incentivized for bringing him back with Nico entering junior year
Thank you. This is why I said he'd be back unless he has a fantastic season. RBs just aren't valued like that in the NFL now. Sampson has a lot to prove as a featured back to even be a day 2 pick, and there's no reason to leave if you're not projected in the top 3 rounds. I hope he stays healthy and goes off this season, but I don't see it being some forgone conclusion that he'll enter the draft either. His pass protection was better last year, but still could use a lot of improvement.

I remember when we had
Jabari Davis, Cedric Houston, Derrick Tinsley as 5 star Freshman RBs and
Travis Stephens as a senior. That recruiting class of 2002 we signed Gerald Riggs Jr to basically to replace the loss of Stephen’s.

Literally 2 years later Riggs Jr and Houston both rushed for 1,000 yards and Tennessee won the division. With Tinsley and Davis still on the roster.

This guy is a Top 5 want for me personally in this class. Along with David Sanders, Hayward, Radar Jackson, Na’eem Offord and Knight.

Knight will get plenty of exposure this season, but I’m telling you he’s more talented than ANY RB that I’ve seen in Mater Dei or St John Bosco backfield for the past 4 years…

We can’t get them all, and this weekend has been Euphoric ❤️, but I hope Heupel just chips away at this guy as the season goes on.
I love this kid as a prospect, but he's drank the whole pitcher of Lane Kool-aid. I don't see a flip being likely. They've sold him on being the next Judkins as a freshman.

They had Akaylin Dear committed for a while.
Then he decommited in May I believe. Dear is a top 50 player.

But they have pretty much left him alone and went all in on Knight. It worked.

Yeah, I was reading Knights commitment statements about how he felt like Ole Miss was home yard yada. Not even a peep about Tennessee.

It is what it is. What can you do?

We’re still recruiting a monster class.

Interesting if they sold him on being the next Judkins--- so what was that conversation like? "Hey, you can come in as a freshman and light it up, then you'll come back for your sophomore year and after you don't do quite as well, we won't want to pay you the NIL you will think you deserve, so you will jump in the portal and leave us to go somewhere else to get paid more, does that sound great or what!?"

Crazy what this NIL and transfer portal are doing to kids...

It is, but most of these kids and their families aren't tapped into college football like a lot of us junkies on VN. You show a kid QJ's highlights and stats as a true freshman. Tell him how much they are alike as players, and that they don't have anyone like that now. Then promise a chance to be that guy as soon as he steps on campus. Last step is to tell the kid that you have all the pieces in place to win championships except for him. Kiffin is one of the best used car salesmen out there.

No doubt

He could come in at Tennessee with a monster OL class with him but probably goes with popcorn farts & portal recruiting in his future.

Maybe I am drinking too much orange kool-aid, but I am betting Sampson gets drafted next year.
Completely possible.

RBs have a short shelf life, and he’s more valuable with less tread on his tires so-to-speak.

He gets 1,500 total yards with some jaw dropping plays this season then yeah, somebody will draft him for sure.

But not the Von Bell…
The Bullock Brothers
Or Adarius Bowman…

But yes With Boo Carter
Gerald Riggs
Reggie White
Could have had the Bullocks from Hixson. I think we really only wanted one of them. Reggie Mathis signed with the vols but couldn’t get into school. Charles Morgan got mad at his position coach and left. Both those two would have been stars.

I never heard why Charles Morgan left.

He got mad at the DE line coach for something. Pretty sure that coach got out of coaching shortly after that. He and Reggie both really liked the U so maybe he was looking for a reason. He injured his back working out his first year down there and never really recovered.

It’s been a long time but IIRC as a freshman Charles was inserted at LB in the 1980 Alabama game due to injury to the starter. He made 10+ tackles and was named the SEC Defensive player of the week. In the team film review he graded unexpectedly low and the coaches pointed out his mistakes. He didn’t take the correction well and left school. He resurfaced at the Ken Sparks rehabilitation center at Carson Newman College after Christmas for a semester. Don’t recall seeing him the next fall so I don't know where his journey took him from there, but I recall seeing an article in the Chattanooga paper about 15 years back where Charles was working for the city recreation department running one of the rec centers in town. Hopefully my memory is close to accurate.
