'20 TN RB Tee Hodge (UT SIGNEE)

lol I agree, but I'm not sure are team is better tbh. Dude we lose to Vanderbilt every year.

Also, Hodge is taking his time. He's visited many times and talks with our coaches weekly. He's interested.
we know, we've been here for all of it.
like i said, i get what you were saying IF you were keeping it to a "national relevance" conversation....results wise, we don't compare with the top of most conferences.

but that's literally it. we have an all start coaching staff, and while you can talk up Brohm's big win all you want, the reality is more top shelf recruits know about Jeremy pruitt, and this staff, than you're obviously willing to admit. and once you start talking facilities, staff, conference, campus, location, TV exposure, etc, etc, etc......it just doesn't compare.

so, no, i think if you have a kid that has legit committable offers from Purdue and TN, i'd be hard pressed to imagine we lose that battle very often.

and really, if that win over OSU was so big and mattered so much to Purdue's recruiting prowess, shouldn't that mean they should be able to compete favorably with the type of kids OSU is recuiting?

i'm glad he's interested. i'll be surprised if he actually comes here.

I don't much cheer for Maryville, but I do like some of the kids who have come from there like Dylan Jackson. They tend to be good players on and off the field. Brohm wasn't fielding offers from across the country this offseason because he's not good. Wait on it.

Dude we are just having a conversation. I'm not actively being obtuse just because I have a different perspective. You have a good point about the institution's credibility when we hired a coach. So let's go back to our other coach searches. Did we ever get our #1 guy?
I never said Brohm was not good. You are asking for objectivity from Tennessee fans when you clearly have a lack of some when it comes to Maryville kids. I think it's fine if he likes Purdue better than Tennessee. I personally do not see how he could, but I am a different person and people fall in love with places for many different reasons. What is unreasonable is that you equate his love with Purdue with other potential recruits, essentially defending him for feeling that way because you claim that's how many recruits feel. It is your clear bias in defending him that lends less credence to your argument.

I didn't compare tradition. I didn't compare facilities. I didn't compare finances. I specifically compared coaches and perception as of 2019.

"Purdue is a bottom tier FB program, now and forever, in a power 5 conference." Honestly, what are we? We've lost to Vanderbilt three years in a row. That' what I'm talking about. Kids don't see as much difference in our football programs as you believe.

Is that why we continue to attract top 15 talent at worse, including multiple 5 stars and 4 stars, and Purdue recruits at 72 in 2017, 51 in 2018, and by some miracle, made it to 25th in 2019, with 0 5 stars, and only 5 4 stars combined in those last 3 classes? hmmm... it seems that recruits do not view TN and Purdue as the same as you suggest...

Did we ever open up the check book? Check out the running list of coaches at Bama from the mid 90's until they finally decided football was a priority again.

Yea. So what number was Coach Pruitt on our head coaching list? #1? This is what I'm talking about. You guys hold us on such a high, unrealistic standard. Which may be the reason some are perpetually disappointed when recruits go elsewhere
Number 1 on Fulmer's. All that matters

Dude Purdue lost to Eastern Michigan!!! Minnesota beat them 41-10! What are you talking about?

That we lose to Vanderbilt every year and you expect it be 1995 every year. It's not realistic, but neither is comparing Purdue and Tennessee I guess. My main point is that we aren't on some kind of pedestal as a top program. We aren't and kids don't care about what happened 20 years ago. They care about the here and now If you are an offensie player, until we got Chaney, who would you want to play for? Brohm or Tyson Helton?
If they don't then why does Purdue never get 5 stars and only 5 4 stars over the past 3 years while multiple top recruits come to TN every single year, including multiple 5 stars and 11 ESPN 300 recruits in Pruitt's first full class alone. But tell me again how recruits view Purdue and TN as the same.

What's a joke is the inability to have an objective conversation on this board that pertains to the Vols. That's the joke.

Purdue is 25th in recruiting ( 26 committed) . Can't even match our worst years.
Why?
Fact: The number of big fish that come to TN are not - have not - will not go to Purdue.

That's real objectivity and facts. Complete opposite of what you're doing.

Dude has some kind of weird agenda

Good point.

I really don't have an agenda. I've been thinking about the UT bubble we live in and how it informs they way we think about our teams. All fans do it of course, but I was thinking about how I grew up with us always winning and now, well, we aren't. The Purdue thing kinda originated from those thoughts. Did the perception I developed as a kid about the Vols ever go away? Not really, albeit I'm confused why it hasn't.
It is fine to say that our perception has fallen. There can be no doubt about that. But to compare it to Purdue is an absolute joke. We are still regarded by recruits as one of the top programs in college football. If we weren't, we wouldn't recruit at the level that we do. Henry To, Crouch, Morris, and Wright would not come here if they did not regard us as one of the top programs in college football. Those guys would probably never even visit Purdue, let alone go there.

this is the closest thing to making any sense you have posted on the matter.

no one thinks we're on a pedestal. you just cant' say an offer from Purdue and TN is basically the same thing.....

it is, but it isn't...........and we've already proved that in how we recruited in 2018. and Harrison baily when he committed to TN could have had that choice you refer to, and still chose TN........

the problem we have is in the volume of top guys....we can't just "go get" a kid like clemson, GA or Bama can in most cases.

we can, and have, and will, out recruit Purdue...whether Tee Hodge goes there or not.

When we start winning again we will be able to do this...

at least get closer to it for sure.

the thing about in state recruiting in TN that gets me, and seems to get lost in any discussion about it, is that so many of these TN kids didn't grow up here. they definitley haven't been thru any sort of success by TN, and there's just no real reason form them to consider TN in the same group as a Bama, GA, Auburn, LSU, Clemson, OSU etc....and i do get that.

what i don't get is the narrative that if a kid leaves the state, that's a miss by us. not to say that doesnt' happen. but i see a kid like this, who is a good player mind you, but he's not a kiid every program is after.........not like Thomas, Morris, Grimes, Lawrence, Baron, HArdy, even Mays or Tucker........

but if Hodge goes somewhere else, it's a "miss". that's just complete BS in my book.

Clemson couldn't go get someone until they started winning. When we win, we'll be able to get who we want, or at least more of them. We're already getting some of them and we aren't even winning anything yet.

That a big when don't you think?
I don't know what this means. But we're already landing top talent. Had we signed 25 and not 23 we would have been in the top 10 following 4-8 and 5-7. When we start winning again at a high level, and we will, we will be recruiting as high as anybody in the country.
