TN vs Georgia Determines what direction this Program will head

So this one game, that very few even give us a shot of winning, determines our path for the next five years? Sounds like a bad 80's movie, insurmountable odds must be overcome by a downtrodden yet plucky gang of misfits.

Yeah.

Hated Alabama too

Okay, since the donkey can talk, that's got to be worth something. I would expect a good trainer could teach it to trash-talk. Consequently, one would think a trash-talking donkey would then have certain advantages over its competition. Therefore, I'm going with the donkey in the derby.

That was the original question, wasn't it?

I agree with the posts that feel IF we do pull the upset it will speed the process. A win would change the perception from bottom 3rd of SEC to middle of the pack. Mostly though it will give this team a jolt and could turn this into a special season.

This game won't tell us where we're heading. It's still too early.

No, if, and's, or buts, candy or nuts about it. This game determines whether or not our program can rise to the top amid the ashes like the phoenix or stay in the smoldering ashes for another 5 years with below mediocre depth, recruits and results on the field in the win and loss column. This is the biggest game in the history of the program bar none. 50 recruits will be at neyland tomorrow. GO VOLS!! BEAT GEORGIA!!!

Epic Stupidity.... We are 5 games into a new coaching staff.

Dude get a grip. This team is horrible this yr!!! QB situation is horrendous!!!! That's why I'm sticking to a 4-8 season. GA is going to massacre us and all realists ought to realize this!!!! Only team I see us beating is Kentucky. That's it. There's always next yr to get better. This season is a wash at this point...

Dude. Your the one who needs to get a grip if you think this team should lose to Vandy, UK, or Mizzou. NONE of those teams have as much talent as UT.

No "realist" claims to "know" something that has not occurred. A realist might say UGA is "likely" to beat UT by a wide margin. But there is nothing "realistic" about making concrete predictions about future events when there is CLEARLY a chance however remote you may believe it to be for a different result.

The team is not horrible and neither is the QB. The QB needs to improve and so do the receivers... but you know... REALISTS expect that to happen with good coaching.

2009 didn't end up how the program would go under Kiffin. We should have had a great team that year.

A team starting two 265 lb walk-ons and a Fr on the OL plus a 5'9" walk on MLB should have been "great"?

with no talent, getting a beatdown from uga doesn't signify anything about the "future." ut needs a lot more talent to stay on the field with top teams like ga and alabama.

For the next three games, if the Vols can show consistent improvement on both sides of the ball and avoid major injuries. Then they have a chance to win 3 of the last 4 and go to a bowl game. That will determine the future of this program. But if they could somehow pull an upset, then it would be icing on the cake.

Yes. If UT had "no talent" that would be true. However it is not true if the staff fails to effectively use the talent it has.

Dooley came close to beating two better teams in LSU and UNC. Kiffin threw a scare into Bama and frustrated UF. But somehow we're supposed to accept that Jones is better than both and definitely the guy to lift UT out of the pit while NOT expecting him to perform on gameday vs top competition?

You guys need to lay off the op. I don't think he said anything that validates someone calling him a dumbass. Upsets happen every week in the NCAA , by teams much less talented than ours. I agree that this COULD be the biggest game of modern UT football. If this is the win that propels us forward in recruiting and just actually shows this team it can win, than it will set the tone for the rest of the season. I have said it in other threads and I will stand by it in this one, we have to win one that we are not supposed to win in order for me to see improvement. I don't think that is too much to ask and I honestly don't think this current team thinks that can as well and that is why they lay down when things go bad and then gets worse. The team in my opinion, feels there is a curse or hex on it, so when things go downhill they stop fighting. How many fbs schools shocked d1 the first week of the season? Plenty. We should expect our coaches to out coach at least one team this year, not just out talent them.

The key word you used was put a scare into them much the way a underdog did to us last week and we have fans freaking out. If Kiffin had beat Bama that year would any one be saying he Saban under coached his team.

I guess I am trying to say because your team under preforms for one half of a game that does not define you as a coach. If we judged teams on half game performances Dooley would have been the best coach in the country.

Worley is starting to play more aggressive. The WR's are developing. I am personally more satisfied with what I have seen from the O than from the D. I think they've improved more.[/QUOTE]

If you base the improvement off of game one to now I would agree the offense has improved more but I based my opinion from last season to now. Last season the defense with pretty much the same players as this season could not line up properly and were consistently out of position. This season we are lined up properly and and in position to make plays and while we are not always making the plays we have been schemed into position.

A win would be huge, but a loss wouldn't set up back like the op describes. Now vandy or ky may be a different story.
Go Vols

Regardless of the opponent, that 3rd down conversion from Worley to Croom was all I needed to see to let JW end on a good note. I think Worley and Croom are going to have a great rest of the season and it sucks because Worley might not be the guy next year.

I think UF was the game that indicated what direction we're headed this year. UGA will either validate that or show that we're pushing off the bottom. I just hope it doesn't get ugly with all the recruits there.
