'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Tennessee)

In state star going to our biggest rival. Perception alone is as close to a must get that’s left on our board.
Land Matthews and Wingo, to go along with Staley...Jefferson is forgotten by signing day, ESPECIALLY if he goes to Bama.

That statement is true...and, would never be made about a "must get".

Aren’t we doing fantastic in the State of Tennessee…. We have gotten 4 of the top 5 from the state of Tennessee that we are targetting…. Amari is the last one who hasn’t made a decision yet… I’m hoping we make it a clean sweep by getting Amari.
I mean it’s more like 4/7 when you include Leblanc to OSU and ROC to Clemson, but even then we recruited out of state guys that are higher rated in Echols and Satterwhite.

Missing on kids instate is not necessarily indicative of issues with the staffs recruiting any more than missing on a kid from GA or AL.

Again, disagree whole heartedly.
Alabama and UT are throwing the kitchen sink at him every time he visits. That’s fine that you don’t agree, but it is what our staff is showing by their actions. A win against someone Bama wants this bad would be huge for perception and we can easily play the locking down our state card. It’s not about “we’re always going to be fine at receiver with Heupel,” even though that is true. This is a statement. The same one we’re making to Clemson.

The longer you're able to put a quality product on the field, the easier it is to recruit EVERYWHERE. I know that sounds like common sense, but it's like we forget that Vol football hasn't been nationally relevant for twenty years. Heupel's offense and the new NCAA football video game will help fast track the process. We will have tons of kids being fans of the program in-state and elsewhere once again. The media will be forced to change their narrative of our program as well.

...especially when the "in-state" kids didn't actually grow up in Tennessee. Therefore, they are not really in-state kids despite the fact they graduated from a high school in Tennessee.

Yeah with most of the big time talent being either from Nashville (made up of a tonnnn of transplant families from around the country) or Memphis (6 hours away) not many of these kids have grown up watching or caring about UT football.

I think right now the only “must gets” are a premier OT (Bennett Warren or Brandon baker seem to be only options unless we flip someone), impact defensive pash rushers (Nwaneri, Franklin, Ross, okoye), and lockdown DBs (demello Jones, cai bates, etc). To me a must get is where do we need the players. No other attribute (like location or other suitors) makes someone a “must get” to me. I do agree that it would be a big recruiting win and a statement anytime we go head to head with a rival, but must get status to me is based solely on the ability to upgrade our current roster. We’ll be fine at wr whether we get amari or not.

Max is not from Tennessee which is why I didn’t include Spillman who it looks like we will get…. AP is also hinting that the staff cooled on ROC…

There is a reason when the staff was hired that they went to all the high schools trying to mend hurt feelings… it should be easier to recruit kids closer to your school…. It gets harder the further you go away from the school.

There is no such thing as a must get when it comes to recruiting.

Fair enough. Good points

I just don't see anyone as a must get.

That's such a blanket statement that is proven false as much as true. I would wager the staff went to build relationships at a LOT of high schools within 500 miles or even further. There is a reason our staff have recruiting regions and are always on the road.

For a lot of kids, this is true. I don’t think NIL will be the difference make for Amari.

It is going to take funds and Bama has no issue with this. If both teams are equal then I think he comes here. This could go either way because we will not get in a bidding war but 100k is the minimum.

Tony Vitello could be the actual difference maker. Amari is determined to play baseball, and we all know who has the better program and coaches amongst his top 3. Of course, a lot can change and he could end up being drafted in next year’s MLB draft and never see college. I know all 30 MLB teams have inquired about him.

And that has been the case in Atlanta and much of Florida for years. Another reason the “instate advantage” is overblown.
