'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Tennessee)

In state recruiting is an outdated concept. It’s 2023. Plenty of big programs load up on kids nationally. One of Georgia’s recent classes hardly had any of the top 10 guys in state yet they finished top 4. Got to recruit nationally in the online era
That’s very misleading, imo…..comparing our recruiting to Georgia…. It’s not even in the same stratosphere right now…when Kirby first took over Georgia…. His second class that was ranked 3rd had 16 Georgia kids in the class while his first number one class the next year had 13 Georgia kids in it. Now that they are rolling….they can almost hand pick anyone they want….. Tennessee needs to get the instate guys that they want to give our class a very solid foundation…. Win enough and they can start recruiting like Georgia.

The difference is UGA gets to pass on double digit blue chip recruits per year in state that want to rep their home state. They get to take only the best now and get to cherry pick top talent nationally. They’d still land top 10 classes without trying if they had to take their fallback options that are regional.

Almost all replies, likes and quotes are from Tennessee people. Almost nothing from Bama.

AP and Matt Ray retweeted, FWIW.

If he doesn't feel the love and see the in state advantage, there's really nothing else that can be done.

If he’s serious about wanting to play baseball too, going to Bama makes zero sense.

You can't compare Georgia in state talent with Tennessee in state talent.

I never compared the two states talent….. the point is that if Tennessee decides that they really want 6-8 kids from this state then they need to get the overwhelming majority of them…. It should be easier to get local kids….. it gets much harder the further you move away from campus.you need a good base to have a good class.

Blah. That's crap. You go get who you want. Period. Doesn't matter anymore if they are local, in state or anything else.

That would make since if Knoxville wasn’t in the exact same footprint, draw a 500 mile radius around both schools. Exact same talent. Forget the imaginary borders.

Heck, why stop there. Let’s make it a 1,000 miles and really even it out. 3-4 hour drive maybe a valid metric. There still is value to closest proximity to p5 schools. Maybe little Sis wants to go the same school but that pesky out of state tuition gets in the way. Heck that extra 300 miles takes 5 extra hours of drive time with a potty stop. Each way. Driving through Atlanta and Chattanooga to get to Knoxville sounds enticing for all those kids south of there.

We do want this kid from what we have been told….. if you can’t win battles close to your school (with everyone pushing him toward that school)…. It gets harder to win them further away from campus….. we have a prime example of this in Braylen Russell….What do you think the chances are that we lose that kid if he had been from Charlotte, NC than Arkansas….Probably not very high…. To be at our very best….. we have to be able to hand pick local guys that we really want…. Hand pick guys instate…. Be very solid within 500 miles from campus… then get a few that are interested further out….. Another prime example is Rushing….. do you think that we lose that kid to Arizona if he had been from the south?

Kids cross state lines. As he says, instate talent is an outdated concept. Society is far more transient now. Does proximity matter? Generally, yes. But it doesn’t matter if that kid is in the state or not, as long as he’s proximate. Tennessee has as good or better shot at Atlanta/Charlotte kids than Memphis kids because the former is closer, even though the latter is instate.

There is a TON of proximate talent for Tennessee to recruit from, instate or not.

Now draw one that is 250 miles, then 100. There also is a concept of loyalty to one’s “imaginary borders”.

I’ve seen 500 miles several times. You do realize Panama City is less than 500 miles from Knoxville. Detroit is only a 513 mile Drive. That’s a hell of a circle.
For sure. Meanwhile power house Buford is an hour from Athens for example.

For real. State of Georgia has 6 5* and 15 of top 100 players. They can half of those and have a great class. And they usually do.
Georgia population is larger than TN.

In '25, TN has 14 4 Stars. 6 of those are in Nash area, 2 Memphis, 2 Chatt, 1 in Alcoa.

That means rest of TN, Nash and Memphis just have three star players? You cant tell me that out of the rest of the state there arent collegiate level players.

I honestly think that folks automatically assume bc a kid is from GA, FL, TX that they're just better athletes.

Within 500 miles. Go with that. Many states inside that parameter. Let go of state border bias. It's not 1865 any more.
