'20 TN WR Holden Willis (USF commit)

He went to the Opening in Nashville. He was the 8th rated WR based on measureables. Plus, the stats he put on the field.

He’s plenty talented and has more than enough athletic ability to get a scholarship.

The list is much bigger of small school stars that cannot play division 1 football.... didn’t he camp at UT? I hope we get him if the coaches feel like he can compete at this level.
He camped at UT, and the Nike open in Nashville where he finished 8th. Compare his Nike open numbers to Tee Higgins Nike open numbers he put up in Charlotte during his senior year, I believe Willis was a 10th faster in each category.

Bruh, what part of "Does not mean he is not any good" did you not understand? I agree talnt can come from anywhere but it's hard to be sure how good they are when playing against inferior talent. Sometime talent is so obvious it just jumps out at you. Holden Willis does not have the eye popping speed or lightning quick hips that just jumps out at me and says "take". It says PWO.
Give me the name of a WR who has eye popping speed. Willis ran a 4.53 laser time, at 6’4 205lbs that’s eye popping enough for me. We signed Jaylin Hyatt and I guarantee Willis would line up just fine with him. As for lighting hips most WRs with his size aren’t noted for that aspect of their game, Willis is a powerful runner with the ball in his hands and is hard for defenders to match up with.

Jalen Hyatt runs a 4.31 and would absolutly smoke anyone running a 4.53. We don't know if it's hard for dfenders to match up with Willis because he has not gone up against any decent talent. I'm not saying he is not a good football player I'm simply saying i don't know how good he is. For instance he is probably the only guy in 1A football running a 4.53. My 3A high school had 4 guys on the team that were faster than 4.53.

Of course it is! Get a kid in front of the right people and they generally get noticed. On the other hand a lot of small school players never get noticed. As far as the Willis kid he can compete at this level and he is going to make somebody real happy.
The UT coaching staff loves this kid but may not have room to offer him. I expect in the coming weeks with this first SD over he will start getting power 5 attention. I’ll say this, if Austin Pope can play on scholarship at UT, not taking anything away from AP, Willis could as well.

There is a major size difference, but you do realize that Jaylin Hyatt was laser timed at 4.31 and just put on a clinic in an all star game? Hyatt is one of the absolute fastest players in the country. I get your argument for Willis, but you're setting yourself up for embarrassment by trying to compare him to Tee Higgins(a former 5* and future 1st round draft pick) and Jaylin Hyatt. He's been given an opportunity to prove himself with a PWO offer. You're suggesting he should be given one of the final scholarships when 0 major programs are beating down his door.

I believe he camped last year with JH at Clemson and did really well. You’re right, the level of comp is the issue, it’s to late for him to play better comp, however, if he happens to get an opportunity to play for the Vols he will not disappoint and all the talk about competition will be put to rest.

watched is video all the way through the other day. He looks very good but not even close to the video of the other receivers we recruited this year. PWO is the most he should of been offered at UT. If he comes here as a PWO , the opportunity to earn a scholarship will be on him.

You do realize Jennings runs a 4. 7 to 4 8 ? Willis is a football player not just a boy who can run and catch. I doubt he gets an offer but wherever he winds up he will play.

I saw Higgins play, worth every penny for the tickets. I’m not comparing him to #1 DP Higgins, but 5* Higgins. Not even going to argue the level of high school comp between the two, just pound for pound and watching both kids play HS ball, catching, route running, blocking, etc. I think JH will be a good player for the Vols, I just think Willis would be just as good. BTW, he has SS offers and we may not get to see what he could do wearing the power T.

I’ve watched other videos as well, I think he would hold his own. The others are great players no doubt. Maybe he takes the PWO, but next signing day is a long way away. Something I saw that was interesting, Austin Price told Willis twice not to sign on the first signing period, maybe he knows something we don’t.

Don’t know this guy from anyone else. Just commenting on the speed comparison. Two tenths doesn’t mean someone smokes another. If they both maintain that speed, then the 4.3 guy beats the other by a half second from one endzone to the other in a straight line. Plus, if the 4.5 guy understands angles and has wiggle, then he could get there quicker in a game.

Someone who runs a 4.5 in high school is really good because they can get better training in college and cut a second off it.

Edit: I didn’t obviously mean cutting off a second. Meant a tenth of a second.

Can't really compare a WR to a TE/FB type of player. I doubt this kid can do what AP does simply because they play completely different positions with completely different roles.

Yeah it’s a terrible comparison. AP had offers from Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mizzou, etc. This kid has Austin Peay and UMass...he’s a PWO - if he earns a scholly good for him, I hope he does. But there is nothing to suggest he deserves one now, especially with limited spots and WAY BETTER prospects out there. If we gave this kid a spot over Caldwell or Wren I would throw up.

Na, he played South Pittsburg. They are fast. He did very well versus them. And don't be silly with that comment as only guy running a 4.53 in 1A. Also, he is not Higgins either or close to it. He looks straight line fast, not much wiggle. Kinda like Croom. He prolly compares to Croom better than one of the best WRs in college football. C'mon guys, hes a walk ok for a reason. If he was Higgins we would offer.

South Pittsburg is a terrible football team just like Greenback. They don't have speed. Alcoa has speed for reference.

He has better hands and speed than Croom and can block. I liked Croom but willis is a better prospect and will get better coaching if he plays at Tennessee.

So Alcoa is your 3A school with the 4 faster guys?

Alcoa would beat greenback by 50 plus.... I would love to see Holden go up against Isaiah. I have my doubts about Holden being a P5 player but I hope he is very successful.
