'20 TN WR Holden Willis (USF commit)

Willis is better than Pope in every phase of the game. I will admit that Willis is not nearly as good as Washington, but he is good enough to play in the SEC.

Willis recruitment reminds me of the BB player from Clay Co. a couple of years ago. Key who was offered a PWO from Barnes but signed with Indiana State. The kid broke all kinds of state records just like Willis in HS. Key will probably be MVP of his conference this year and getting all kinds of attention from the NBA. I would bet any kind of money now Barnes wished they would of took a chance on him.
I do completely understand why Tenn. is hesitate at this time regarding Willis. because their is bigger fish in the pond still out there. The kid really wants to play at UT but I think he's going to be successful wherever he goes.

Are you sure about that? I know they play different positions but Pope was much higher rated than Willis coming out of high school and also a top 20 kid in the state.

I don't think everyone is realizing that WR that are 6'4 205 that can run a 4.53 laser 40 are not a dime a dozen, that is absolutely scooting for a guy that size, I'm not making the case that he's worthy of a scholarship at all but anybody who thinks this kid doesn't have legit athleticism and play making ability doesn't know football and hasn't seen this kid play, plus he's tough on D likes to hit playing safety, I hope he takes the PWO, he certainly has the ability to earn a scholarship if he came in and worked hard

Hes good enough for a pwo offer. If he can help us get better or he goes somewhere else good for him. He's a kid, he can decide where he wants to go. If our season depends on a pwo, then we in trouble anyway.

Alcoa would beat greenback by 50 plus.... I would love to see Holden go up against Isaiah. I have my doubts about Holden being a P5 player but I hope he is very successful.
Put Willis on Alcoa’s and he’d a been the best receiver they had as well. Actually would’ve been fun to see that!
Alcoa had a great team this year, that D was nasty! What happened against Maryville?

Doesn’t that say something about Willis that the staff and the recruiting department is willing to offer a PWO. Pruitt said himself on Finebaum he doesn’t go by recruiting services but there own evaluations of players.
Maybe in the eyes of the Vols staff Willis is a bit of a long shot to offer because of the competition he played against in 1A and that’s understandable because they here to win or go somewhere else. If the level of comp was all Willis had that’d be one thing, but this kid went to several camps in the spring and summer went up against 3-5* recruits and did great. He’s a 3* according to 247 and should be higher by Rivals but it is what it is.

I would put Isaiah cox up against Willis any day of the week. Maryville is just the better team.... we can match them on defense but their offense is a lot better than Alcoa’s offense.

That would be fun to see, Cox is a good one for sure, I think Willis would win that match up most of the time. I actually thought Alcoa would get Maryville because of their size and speed.

Straight line speed..... maybe but Isaiah is on another level athletically from Willis.....Alcoa had a chance against Maryville but they struggle getting started but if you let them get in space then you are in trouble.... Maryville is very disciplined and didn’t allow Alcoa to get into space.

I’m not so sure about that.... Pope is getting minutes on a bowl bound SEC team.... that is a really big accomplishment and a lot more difficult to achieve than you all are making it sound.
Pope is a great kid, glad he’s a Vol. Watched him play in HS and deserved the offers. No one knows what any kid will do once they get into college, Willis could end up being a bust for all we know, but if he ends up a Vol or somewhere else, and continues to use what God has blessed him with he will do great. I do believe there are other P5 schools talking to him and things could change in the coming weeks for him.

Just to know, is Willis eligible for a Blueshirt? Just a thought that it might be on the table if possible. One of those Blueshirt if no scholly still available after next signing day. I want this kid at UT. One of the services shows no official visit.

PWO is absolutely nothing. I don't get why ppl think accepting this is a honor or anything other than what it is. You're still a walk on and used as a tackling dummy for the most part. I hate to see kids turn down real money and opportunity to be a glorified walk on. Its just kinda dumb and yes we've had kids do it, but we tell them what they're leaving in the table and risks they're taking.

As a poster said Pope would never have been offered by CJP and that's a fact. The comparison of these two is pretty accurate. This staff is not looking for feel good stories right now but real true talent to win and win at all cost. I like the kid and he has a filthy skillset, but its not UT right now need skillset. He will be a really good player but in a lower tier not SEC. Reminds me of the kid from Bowling Green who later left and went to Bama. Once he got to Bama he stayed hurt and realized he had reached his peak at BG. He even got a shot in the NFL but to my record it didn't last long. And for the record Pope came to our camp at Alcoa and earned his offer. He put on a clinic and didn't drop 1 single ball that day so I personally know how he ended up at UT.

Over the years some of Tenn's best teams had a Willis or two on them. Best of luck to the boy!

I respectfully disagree agree to your SEC observation. Willis can play in the SEC

As long as he doesn’t OV or have an in home visit from the school

So these kids that just got put on scholarship it meant absolutely nothing to them when they accepted the PWO. If Tennessee is your dream school wouldn’t it mean something. These kids that are on the scout team are part of the TEAM. They have there roll to help the TEAM.

Don’t disagree, I love the Vols but in this case a full somewhere else is hard to walk away from. I do believe Willis would earn a scholarship at UT as I could see him taking to the coaching, adding 10-15 lbs to his frame and maintaining/improving his speed, and skills. Heck he could grow another inch, he also has a nasty vertical. In a couple games he caught two missiles from Carnse one handed like he was catching a throw out at second and never broke stride.
