Croom was a 4* recruit out of HS and is playing in the NFL. I’ve got no idea how good Willis is, but if you’re correct and he’s better than Croom then he should absolutely be one of our last 4 scholarshipsHe has better hands and speed than Croom and can block. I liked Croom but willis is a better prospect and will get better coaching if he plays at Tennessee.
That is one man's opinion who definitely hasn't made a career of evaluating talent in any aspect. Not trying to down the man, and wish he was correct. Willis has tools to work with, but at this point he is nowhere near the guys he's trying to compare him to. That has nothing to do with him playing 1A ball. Could he put in the extra work over the next 4-5 years and be great? Absolutely. But those are attributes you can't see on tape. At this point he doesn't warrant a scholarship in this class.Croom was a 4* recruit out of HS and is playing in the NFL. Most of you recall, it took Croom a few years to adjust to college football He had a tough time getting playing time at Tennessee. He had all the measurables in high school went to all the camps and was highly ranked. He dropped a lot of balls he should have caught Wills has much better hands and is ,at this stage of his game, is a better blocker.
As far as experience, I have a brother who player football at a P10 school, a don who player in the SEC, and a grandson who’ll caught 3 passes for 169 yards and 2 TDS the the Division I I National Championship game
Always funny to see how confident message board posters are in their talent evaluations. Not saying this kid is good or bad, but when it comes to evaluation, I'm gonna roll with our coaches, the guys who do this for a living and whose jobs rest upon their ability to do it at a high level.

The UT coaching staff loves this kid but may not have room to offer him. I expect in the coming weeks with this first SD over he will start getting power 5 attention. I’ll say this, if Austin Pope can play on scholarship at UT, not taking anything away from AP, Willis could as well.
Coaches watch film and look for certain things. They hold camps to evaluate as well. For them, it's less about level of competition and more about what they see with their own eyes. If they saw enough in this kid to feel confident, they wouldn't hesitate to offer a scholarship. They do not enslave themselves to star rankings or the whims of the fans. They're looking for ballplayers to help them win games. So I would think evaluation has everything to do with it.I don’t know if you can say it’s a evaluation of thing .If you know Tennessee is a dream offer and he is in state PWO is the best thing to offer. I understand the 1a stuff a little. At the level Pruitt has to recruit you hope Willis takes the PWO and develops into a great player and earns a scholarship.

Bituli was a heavily recruited 4 star..... it’s not just the competition they play.... it is how the staff feels their talent will compare to other SEC level players.
The true story on Eddie Moore. He was not being recruited at all until some film was sent to Clemson and Old Miss. UT knew about him thru connections with the HS coach. UT slowed played him but when Clemson and OM offered based just on the film UT then offered when they thought they would lose him. OM and Clemson wanted Eddie as a RB. A lot of the small school guys just don't get the exposure. When you see a player up close and personal most Coaches worth a dam can tell if they can play regardless of competition.
They offered him a PWO with the opportunity to earn a scholarship, but they didn't offer him an outright scholarship. No one is saying the kid is a failure that will never be a big time football player. He has talent. No one is denying that. But the coaches haven't seen enough in their evaluations to feel comfortable making that full offer. Maybe things change, maybe they don't, but I'm going to trust the coaches when it comes to handing out scholarships, and not a mb poster saying he deserves one.But they felt enough to offer a PWO. So they see talent when they watched his film and did there evaluation. How is Willis any different from Alex Ellis other than a different staff who had no ratings coming out of high school. Got put on scholarship. Worked out for him.
