'22 TN WR Isaiah Horton (Miami Transfer)

So we’re going to force an outside WR into the slot, then bench our natural slot, Squirrel?

That’s not going to happen. Horton would be the first WR off the bench. On the outside.
You don’t think Matthews can be just fine in the slot? Also, based on this year, you would be excited about Squirrel starting again?

Squirrel is pedestrian at best unfortunately. Need to upgrade/play younger guy in his place. That is even before the shoulder injury.
Lmao.. pedestrian at best?

As a freshman he had 30 receptions for almost 500 yards and that was with Hyatt, Tillman, and Bru.

Sophomore he had 60+ receptions for 800 yds.

This year (shoulder injury) 33 receptions for 364 yards.

So yeah...you're completely wrong.. congrats.

In fairness to the op, SW has been pretty pedestrian this year, shoulder injury or not, he hasn’t been a top 3 wr for us

Watch the tape more than look at the stats. He is uncomfortable. He can’t catch a slant without unnecessarily jumping. His RAC ability has vanished this year.

A) Matthews isn't a slot. He's an outside WR.
B) Yes, I would love to see a healthy Squirrel White starting next year. He wasn't healthy this year.
C) Horton isn't better than any of the 3 projected starters, so I'm not sure why we have to do positional gymnastics and play guys out of position in order to work an inferior WR into the starting lineup.

Squirrel isn't being forced out. Certainly not for this dude.

With that being said, White was not very impressive this year even considering the injury. But finding a guy with as much experience as he has would be really hard to find. If he went to the portal he would easily one of the top 5 guys available. Not everyone has to be a future early round draft pick to be a valuable college player.

How was he not impressive "even considering the shoulder injury"? If he'd played on one leg and lacked production, would we say, "well, he wasn't impressive, even if you consider he only has one leg"? The only variables between this year and his first two years are 1) the shoulder injury and 2) the QB. And considering his most productive season was the one with the worst QB, that's clearly not the issue.

This thread is weird. Squirrel is an excellent slot WR. He was very productive in that role his first two seasons. He's played almost all of 2024 with a bum shoulder. His production has dropped and he looks like a lesser version of his previous self. Gee, I wonder what the reason is? I don't know, but we can't consider that it's the shoulder injury. Obviously.

A healthy Squirrel White in 2025 is a weapon. Just as he was in 2023...because, you know...he was healthy then.

Because we watched him play the first 5 games of this season before he hurt his shoulder and he was unimpressive. Players aren't above criticism.

Not disagreeing - they didn’t have a great year. Neither did our QB. How much better would their numbers be if Cam Ward was throwing them the ball?
playing in the weak ACC where their toughest competition was, checks notes, Syracuse this guy we want to replace Squirrel with had 616 yards and 5 tds. that doesn't really wow me. Squirrel has shown he can do better.

Squirrel has never done better than that in a season though
