‘23 TN WR Nathan Spillman (Tennessee)

I know this is a useless point but if everyone would just not respond to Turnip he would quietly go away. He makes his posts looking to stir up the board and without fail many bite.

Next time please just scroll through his posts without giving him what he wants..

He should add an Avi to his profile. Some suggestions:

Id like to see him play his senior year before judging how good he can be as a college player. I know, crazy.

A great point and a good approach. However, maybe the staff should have adopted that same approach; you don’t want to have to gitshirt him considering his brother so why not just follow his development closely and wait a bit to take a commitment?

Maybe the younger brother is that good that you take his older brother regardless. I imagine the staff thinks he could help us in some way. Even if it is just special teams, we can use all the depth we can get now.

You can. Because we may be limited in scholarships and I don’t see much need for an undersized, low ranked WR given the dudes we just pulled in. Sorry but I just don’t see why we would take this commit. Look at the offers.
Not sure if this is accurate but he lists himself as 6’3 195….. hardly undersized…. Sounds like he has good size and fast….. will have to be taught to handle the position better….. with transfer rules…. It’s ok to take a chance on this guy if it means getting a top 100 linebacker…. Look at the big picture.

Checked with Nate and he said the 6'3/195 is his updated height/weight

Hmmm maybe, just maybe, our coaching staff knows more than you do about evaluating talent? Probably not though. It’s why you are behind a keyboard and not making millions to recruit.

Well of course they do. I was simply going based off the recruiting profile and offers, which aren’t impressive. Try again

Well guess what the recruiting services most of the time don't know anything, why do you think the phrase "bama bump" exists its because Saban is an elite evaluator of talent, and from the looks of it so is heupel

But see this is where you mess up. You are trusting the recruiting services above the coaching staff. I realize we Vol fans have been so used to having staffs that don’t know how to develop talent. By all accounts this staff is the opposite of that. Also S it has been stated many times, COVID has made ratings more complicated.

A little shocked you’re not up in arms about a 3* from crappy ‘ole TN.

I pointed out his lack of offers, not his star rating or what some analyst said about him.

Hope this kid makes the class and is an all-American for us. But competing with Arkansas State for WRs is not going to get us back to the top.

Swain is generally very positive but even he has awkward silence when asked by Ben what he thought of his film. He said he didn’t see it, he mostly just ran go routes.

If he did in fact grow, that could be a big part of it because originally the staff had him down the board until recently. I think the brother factors into it as well. He could pan out but seems like a project and a potential package deal

Perhaps Spillman is also close to the highly rated 2024 cornerback prospect, Beasley, from Lipscomb Academy as well and that factored in taking his commitment.

Tbf it’s not like the tempo offense uses a complex route tree. The go route is one of the primary routes
