‘23 TN WR Nathan Spillman (Tennessee)

We already have a 4 star visiting who we never heard of before visiting, so I say he'll be as good or better than kodi
Not just recruiting, he has to develop. Swain didn’t think Kodi developed very well as evidenced by none of the young receivers improving last year and Pope was obviously part of that staff. Hopefully when he’s in charge, his way will be better

You keep saying this yet Arkansas State is about to have a WR transfer into the SEC because he’s really good

I’m as positive as anyone but unless it’s a trend or standard, it means nothing. Just because Tillman was a lowly rated player that worked out or just because Arkansas St has a good player (almost every program does) doesn’t mean much. You can’t build a program on 2 and 3 stars. Sometimes some will outperform but for the most part it’s not the case

I know that but he’s mentioning Arkansas State specifically like they have no clue how to develop/find WRs when that’s one of the few things they’re actually good at. His trolling is so bad he doesn’t even do the bare minimum research

I don’t understand people that freak out about every single recruit. Not all your class is going to be 4 star kids. Every class going to have a low 3 star. I think it’s pretty obvious what this is about. We took Elijah herring early last year when people said that was a stretch but he had a really good senior year and suddenly looks like a kid that can help inside LB and you get the stud brother. This is about the younger brother but you get a solid kid that is willing to develop over time and good in locker room. You need those kids too. Dilfer seen a lot of good players in his playing and analyst career. If he says you want this guy in your locker room you have to listen. Anything you get from him is bonus anyway. Ole Miss fans weren’t complaining about the random kid they took a year before that ended up being how they got Treadwell the next year. Everyone does this stuff

Has anyone considered the possibility that this could also be about building a relationship with Trent Dilfer to help build a mid-state pipeline?
yep! Without a doubt, lipscomb had the 2nd best team in Tennessee last year and they will be just as good next season. Their QB is going to be a stud.

With Spillman:
-CJH likes him
-Dilfer loves him
-Other coaches in their division think he’s a stud
-his numbers weren’t huge because they have several great athletes at receiver and a really solid RB.
-he’s a great pickup that can play offense or defense.

- His brother is a top 100 recruit everyone would bitch about us not landing if we didn't get Nate, especially at a position of need in-state

Wasn't their RB a Boston College signee?

TurnuptheVOLtage wants to let the kid go and risk missing the top 100 brother next year. That's fine, others understand this move is for the brother and if this kid makes a splash that's icing on the cake. It's not like there won't be 9 other receivers in the room every year so stop debating this.
Is that the potato that has everyone so worked up? Lol I blocked that super special individual moons ago.

When CJM called out the "legions of the miserable".........................

Don’t think there’s any indication the staff is trying to build a program on 2-3 stars alone. We had 7-8 4* last class and a couple of really underrated 3*, specifically White, Nimrod, and Phillips. We already have a 4* commit in this class and are in on plenty of others. And, again, both ratings and offers are even more unreliable than before, when they were already a crapshoot, because of Covid.

He's the main reason Spillman's "production" wasn't huge. Nobody could stop Broome. Spillman is a good addition to the Vols.
They also had running clock every 2nd half and I assume they had backups in a lot but they kept the starters in the whole game except for 1 minute when I saw them. He does need to take that next step in his development this year tho imo

And, their '24 QB is going to be a stud, so QB play won't be an issue....
I saw LA play 4 times last year and will definitely be at the BGA game and a couple of other next season. They are fun to watch.

They got a '23 QB who has an offer from Pitt that should start this year

It's also important his brother is a stud that already has a bunch of P5 offers from the likes of bama, osu, etc.

This guy might only have 1 p5 offer so far, but it could end up a package deal too...
Definitely a package deal and as stated earlier in this thread, a connection into Lipscomb. He’s probably not a take under normal conditions, but worth the investment.
