Worley looked good against Georgia and SC. Had he not hurt his thumb he would be the starter and we would have beaten Vandy easily. Worley and the offense was clicking. Wen he got hurt most people were like "look out here comes Dobbs, he is this and he is that. He is much better than Worley, look what he did at the Elite 11 blah, blah, blah." That's all we heard. He has shown to be a better runner no doubt, but as a passer? I will take Worley all day over Dobbs.
Worley was certainly progressing and it was my hope that we could redshirt both freshmen and finish out the year with Worley but it wasn't in the cards. Injuries killed that plan.
However, look how long it took Worley to get there and he had the benefit of some prior experience starting and playing backup, being a junior, 1st team reps, and several cupcake games. Still this year Worley threw 1 INT against WKU, 2 INTs against Florida, 3 INTs against South Alabama, 2 INTs against Bama. Peterman threw 2 against UF. Dobbs threw 2 against Mizzou, 1 against Auburn and 2 tonight. Tyler Bray threw 10 INTs and averaged a little over 1 per game his freshman year. He also had a lot more help than our current QBs -- Denarius Moore and Gerald Jones were both Seniors, as was TE Luke Stocker. Zach Rogers was a sophomore.
INTs are going to happen with inexperience at QB. They're also going to happen with a green receiving corps (experienced WRs and TEs, get open, catch a lot of balls that inexperienced ones don't, knock away balls that defenders might get, help their QB build confidence and set a rhythm and generally make up for a lot of inexperience at QB).
Unfortunately it's a combination knockout punch with our passing game but when the QBs and the WRs are green at the same time this is what happens.
