I love watching the Pearl honks try and compare a guy with two national titles to a guy whose resume consists of some Sweet 16s and bodypaint.

Who gives a damn about body paint? That's just another petty personal issue with you.

And who said he was as good as Calhoun? I was making the argument that he was closer to UConn than Vandy and (chuckle) South Carolina (I still can't believe you tried that one-Almost as bad as you saying Pearl will flame out in two years) over the last four years.

You have yet to show me otherwise.

The WCC was so bad that season it got two at large bids.

Yeah....and how did those teams do in that tournament?

What about the MVC in the 2006 tournament? Did any of those teams make the Sweet 16 or anything?

I'll just chuckle at the UConn comparison. He's closer to SC than he is UConn. The Sweet 16 ceiling doesn't apply to Calhoun. It does at SC.

Haha, please. And which future NBA pros did Pearl have on those teams? Ryan Childress? Major Wingate?
you asked what the argument would change to if those on the current roster became pros. It will change to the fact that our guy couldn't win with NBAers, similar to Jerry Green.

Which other teams are you talking about in an answer to your question about 3 men on the current team, who have yet to see the second Saturday.

Of course Watson credits Pearl, much like Manning credits Fulmer. It's still garbage.

The BS arguments will be even more damning in that the guy couldn't pass the sweet 16 with a bunch of NBAers running around. Isn't that your damnation of Green? Oops.

Ugh, you still?

Quick, tell me which one is different.

UNC #8 seed

Ohio State #1 seed

Louisville #3 seed

(And don't make me start listing future pros on each team)

Pearl got beat by teams more talented than his. Green got beat by one of the least talented UNC teams in the last 30 years and had a decided advantage.

No, see my response to hat above regarding UConn. And, South Carolina has made one tourney appearance in the last ten years. Zero wins. It's a stupid comparison.

This is all good and fun, but I've got to do something productive for the day.

Have fun being fake Vol fans you two.

Surely you aren't picking a team led by dynamic point guards like Bobby Maze and Melvin Goins to miss a regional final.

I love it. The Pearlophiles have taken over Fulmerite rhetoric. If you don't suck off the coach, you're not a "real" fan. The last thing I need is some Bruce Pearl fanboy telling me about being a Tennessee fan. Since you seem to enjoy following Bronzer from stop to stop, here's hoping you go with him to whatever school the Pump Brothers can con into hiring him next.

Said it once, said it a million times. I don't think Pearl should be fired, and he is most definitely one of the best coaches Tennessee has ever had. That said, he needs to hire assistants who can teach good fundamental team offense and defense in the half court sets. It's exactly what Billy Donovan had to do at Florida, but for whatever reason Bruce doesn't seem to think he needs to here. I'm willing to not use Brian Williams as an example since he didn't even pick up a basketball until high school, but the lack of toughness from every single one of our players on the offensive end, and the inability to play defense with their feet, and not their hands, infuriates me almost every single game.

Watching a UT basketball game you are guaranteed to see a pump fake layup in mid air every time someone goes to the basket. It's as if no one has the balls to just take the ball to the rack and not worry about getting fouled in the process. This double pump layup **** is pathetic, and quite frankly it will keep Tyler Smith from getting drafted and playing for more than a year or two in the NBA. And don't get me started on J.P. Prince. I've never seen a bigger pu**y in college basketball.

Daff serious question and not wanting to seem like I am trolling, but why do you think Pearl has had so much success against Billy D?

Billy D and Calipari are both considered better coaches by some of the people on here, but Pearl can hang with them somehow

Why do you think he had limited success against Kentucky, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss or Arkansas and has a losing record in the SEC Tourney?

This game never works.

Hat, I truly enjoy your information regarding recruiting efforts. However, I don't understand your gloom and doom over our recruiting. We are a national player now; perhaps for the first time in our history. Even if you don't like or agree with Pearl and his system, give him credit for making basketball significant again for Vol fans. I have total confidence in this staff and their recruiting efforts. We may never be able to recruit with the North Carolina's and Kentucky's of this world, but we can recruit capable players that will allow us to compete with any program on a consistent basis.

To recognize the improvement in the program is not a suck coach approach, but simply accepting facts. Hopefully, no one will have to follow Pearl anywhere and he will retire from UT.

Why? They have done a terrible job recruiting PG's. The top players under Pearl are Lofton, T. Smith and J. Smith, none of which he recruited.

I will certainly have to agree that we have not been able to recruit a top point guard for whatever reason.

Now I'm happy what BP has done at UT, but I just think some of his flaws are starting to stand out a little more and he is over paid.

By the way, I would not turn down any player Pearl recruited with the possible exception of Tabb and our point guards. If you recall J. Smith was a walk on.

Given a second chance, you'd still take Marques Johnson and Phillip Jurick? That's sad.

Wade Houston used to go on and on about how he was "in the running" for guys like Glenn Robinson, Corliss Williamson, Alan Henderson, and Lawrence Funderburke. It doesn't matter if you don't sign them. You're only a "national player" if you get some of those guys to your campus.

Johnson was terrible, B. Childress was no good, B. Williams is terrible and Melvin Goins is only here because they are desperate because of their errors.

Philip Jurick was another waste. Daniel West another waste. Woolridge is really needs to step up.

Not a good track record.

Let's just go back to Buzzball when we always got the top recruits and couldn't compet with UTC. I remember Buzz indicating that it was a waste of time to recruit top players because we simply couldn't sign any--oh how I long for the two and occasional three star recruits he brought in and hoping we could reach double digit wins each season.

It's great how you list players who aren't on the team and ignore players that are there and were good recruits. Let's always follow the dark side and never give any credit for any thing good in recruiting.
