Toney Williams

Alright, yes I am a Georgia grad but also a Milton High School Alumni so I'll squint my eyes when looking at the orange, LOL. I try to support the local boys.

I'll probably see him in 3 or 4 home games this year, a couple of games interfere with the trips to Baton Rouge and Tempe.

One reason Toney may only be a 3 star is that he spent equal time in the backfield with a 2 year starter last year. They had almost equal carries (about 300 combined) and about 1800 yards. Oh BTW, the other back was also the mayor's son. I doubt that had any influence because both were more than derserving.

Also, Milton has not been a football power on the state level since the early 80's if ever at all. They do not get a lot of press. They went through a 0-34 streak in the mid to late 80's and with the district getting constantly carved up, it has been extremely hard to set any sort of tradition. Looks like they may be changing that.

As to the competition, it is top notch. You guys have no worries there. If Toney continues to put up these kind of stats, its not a fluke.

Looks like he really bulked up over the year. Last year reminded me of former Dawg and Tampa Back Buc Saftey Jermaine Phillips with regards to physical build but not this year (6'-3", 227 - Not sure about height, but looks right on weight).

Anywho, good luck against UCLA and Go Dawgs.

Riggs might of not lived up to this hype. but he was still damn good.

He had a ton of talent with a bad attitude. He had a good JR season, and "injured" himself midway through his SR season. He did the same thing in HS, would just give up on the game and save his self for college. If he would have played for the team he would have been one of the great ones here at UT.

If I recall correctly, Gerald Riggs put us in a position to win the Bama game in his final play as a Vol. I think that play ended with an arguably late hit out of bounds that injured his ankle. I think it may have even been a horse collar tackle. Anyway, you saw what the offense did immediately after his departure. I really don't think he was saving himself for the pros. He's not dumb enough to think a handful of decent games his senior season was going to get him a good draft position.

Maybe not, but I know he gave up in a lot of games when he was in HS. My dad used to ref for TSSAA and had many of his games as an official. He saw him do this first hand many, many times.

He won a state championship, so whatever effort he put forth was sufficient.

Well, he didn't give up in all of the games he played in. I'm just going by what my dad said, who watched him first hand, and who has been around HS football for 30 years.

Meh. I was more concerned than anything about saying you hoped Toney would be better than Gerald, which sort of implied Gerald wasn't any good at UT.

He was a good player that had a bad attitude the first couple of years he played.

speaking of Riggs, his little brother's team was on ESPN earlier today. Does anyone know what grade he's in?

Milton beat Alpharetta 42-13

Toney Williams had 232 yards rushing and 4 TD's. Not sure how many carries. Sat out at least the last 8:36 of the 4th quarter. Will update further once I get some more info.

Edit: This is a link to the local paper. They actually pod cast the game of the week and the games are archived.

Play by play and camera work isn't the greatest, but not bad overall.

Edit: 250 yards on 24 carries. Touchdown runs 78, 15. Another was from inside the 5 and didn't see his fourth. Also caught a screen pass for +/- 25 yards. I am pretty sure he has 916 yards rushing in the first four games of the season and the paper says 10 TD's but it is actually 15.

Milton 41 Centennial 20

Toney Williams had 201 yards on 25 carries and 2 TD and then sat out from about the 9 minute mark in the 4the quarter. He came back in for a late series when Centennial trimmed the lead to 34-20 and had a couple more carries.

Looks like final stats to be 27-28 carries for 230+/- yards. A lot of holding penalties against Milton so I am not sure of the final stats.

Just a workman like performance. He could of had a lot more yards but Milton had 2 long scoring passes and the game was locked up pretty early.

Edit: Made SI's Faces in the Crowd this week for his 350 yard performance in the opening week.

226yards on 29 carries

Try this link:

This Week's Editions - beaconcast.com

Seems they added a login and password requirement since I posted the original. Click on the Friday Night Game of the Week and you can then register and chose which game you want to watch from the archives. Unfortunately there is now fast forward control so you are pretty much stuck watching the whole game.

Edit: I just checked the link and it is working but they want you to install Microsoft Silverlight addon.
