Tony Basillio confirmed - Kevin Ware won't be released

He could have said nothing, but he didn't. He answered the question and raised doubt that Pearl wouldn't be the coach, even after he had told Ware that BP was going to be the coach.

It's not illegal to do that, at least not to the NCAA. However, it's a pretty janky(yeah, I used that word) thing to do, and could have negative repercussions going down the road.

Either way he tried it, it was going to get blown up by the media. No other way around it, and trying to include Hammy in that 30 point running we got is dumb.

Yet, they had to buy them to stay in those seats. I'm talking about people who have been at LP since the beginning. Sports are always about the fans, because without them, who would watch??

Sometimes I wonder if people are serious with things like this.

It would be....if I had used the game in any part of my argument. But, I didn't.

You said that Hamilton was CBP's biggest supporter. I gave evidence to the contrary, and one could argue that Hamilton knew what he was going to do with Pearl the second CBP brought these violations to light, yet, prospective recruits were told that Bruce would be the coach.

And what governing body would he go to to get the 'AA LOI dissolved?? This all seems like a huge undertaking for a kid who was all convinced he was coming here.

Obviously, you weren't able to grasp the point of bringing up contract law. I was showing you yet another reason why it is beyond stupid to compare a LOI with an NBA contract.

The only reason that Hammy's comments even resonate after that interview, is because we lost. Had we have won, no one would have cared, and would have been swinging freely from Pearl's jock.

Might be, but it's still pretty weak to tell recruits that Pearl's going to be the coach, then a week later go on a radio show and raise doubt about his future in the recruit's mind.

Did he say that Pearl wasn't going to be retained?? If he didn't, people should have never freaked out, because it was common knowledge that Bruce was in trouble, regardless of what Mike said.

Agreed, because those comments weren't all over ESPN, TBS, CBS, etc... They only got aired after the game. :birgits_giggle:

If they had won, would they be made more of than what his answer was?? Nope. Only reason people can't let go of those comments, is because they can't let go of Pearl. Hamilton answered a question, and he didn't throw him under the bus.

Considering the bashing of Hamilton's comments came before the game, I'm sure the reaction wouldn't have changed whether it was win or lose.

Hamilton is a business leader and he set the tone with those comments. Much like he set the tone with his backing of Pearl earlier in the year. People knew Pearl only had a slim chance after that, by making a deep run in the tourney. Not taking sides here, just stating that those words carried weight with people, including recruits.

I have ruled on this debate already so goodnight..[hi]

Id let Ware out of his LOI only if he agreed to go to Roane St and play lol.
If the kid wants out then MH or CCM needs to let him go.Heck it might open up a scholly for a better player.

I hate the "he said" and Twitter banter/stuff...man up and let the kid out if he wants out, he hasnt played a second at the school and if he don't want to wear the orange then let him go

This is just a Bryce Brown 2.0 ... wish these kids would give it a rest and grow up ... if you sign a letter of intent it is to the school, not the coach ... players know coaches come and go ... same in high school, college, and in the NBA ... if you start letting people out of their contracts than the whole NCAA would be in a mess ... could you imagine if a player got his feelings hurt or he/she believes they didn't get enough playing time, or maybe the tests were to hard ... I can see now why some of the players make their decision at the last moment ...

I can see both sides to this issue. I do think a kid signs to play AT a school, FOR a certain coach. I believe the school should have an exception to the rule on this case. Think about this........what if Ware really wants to leave and Hammy won't let him go. He comes in and plays a few games then approaches a booster for money. The school is now in trouble not the kid. He now has his revenge against Hammy for not letting him leave when he wanted out. Far fetched, but it can be done. Better be very careful what you wish for!

What if the kid was recruited and signed due to an assistant coach? Then, the assistant coach left for another school. Would you let him out then?

Any player wanting out could just enter a prep school and be out of his LOI. Much the way when Bruce was hired and Tyler Smith went to prep before he went to Iowa

Players shouldn't be forced to play for a coach they don't want to play for, period.

People sign contracts for all sorts of reasons in life. Things change and they are stuck with them. I'm sure you should go talk to the banks that are foreclosing on people's homes and repossessing their cars. I'm sure after you speak to them it will be all good. When in life you decide and commit to something and sign on the dotted line.....CONGRATS....IT IS YOURS!
At what point in life do people have to own up to poor decisions and stand by them....regardless of how sad it might be....life isn't a d@mn video game with a reset button. MAN UP because LIFE AIN'T FAIR!

Good point. I don't recall a lot of bad PR with Tyler Smith, and he was a higher profile player.
