Tony Basillio confirmed - Kevin Ware won't be released

I'm not sure you understood the context of his statement. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with race. However, I don't see anything wrong with telling the kid, "We'll release you if you'll agree to let the new coach come and talk to you first."

I may have and I apologize to hat if I did.... but (and correct me if I'm wrong) the 13th Amendment is basically the abolishment of slavery....

How, if a coaching change happens, and Griffin is under contract, he can't exactly say, "Well eff it, I'm gone", he has to play because he signed up to do so. Same thing with Ware, he signed up to play for UT. Why are we acting like Ware would be the victim here??

Are you really equating a coaching change in the pros with a coaching change in college?

It reminds me of some comments I hear about the NFL lockout that I find to be hilarious. "The greedy players and owners are screwing over the fans."

I'd love to see what the median average household income is of the fans that spend their paycheck to see them play, versus the players, coaches, and owners of the teams.

This has been the case I have been trying to get across this entire time. I also think these are MH's intentions regardless of his historical management abilities. Ware needs to sit down with CCM and talk things over. After the weekend, I fully expect these issues to be resolved. I highly doubt we won't release him if he is adamant about not playing for UT despite meeting with the new coach.

You are currently the most idiotic poster on VolNation. Congrats. We are releasing you from anything you've ever signed ever.

He was meaning that not releasing a prospective student athlete essentially strips him of his free will to decide where he wants to attend school.

I'm sure Ware and Jones were given some sort of guarantee by Hamilton that Pearl would be around before they signed their LOIs. They would not have signed LOIs if they weren't given some sort of confirmation from the AD that Pearl would stick around. Given that, there is no question UT should allow a release. Of course, I'm a believer in the new coach getting a fair chance to keep him, but if Ware still does not want to stay, it would be absolutely immoral to not grant a release.

Which, I never remember hearing in law school only applied to blacks. Pretty sure I never said the white kids had to stay.

Sure, both signed a contract guaranteeing them certain financial structure for services rendered. Not that hard to equate.

I think Kevin O'Neil stated the difference best...

In college, you go, "Hey, Kevin, get your ass back here and run that drill again"

In the NBA, you go, "Hey, Kevin, could you please get back here and run that drill again"

What would be the point of that?

To see if the players and owners have room to talk about not being greedy, and screwing over the fans. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fans HAVE to by their season tickets up front, even if there isn't a season, correct??

Think about it. He's an 18 year-old kid who had been lied to by the AD that the guy he wanted to play for would be around. And if the AD broke that promise, UT shouldn't let Ware go?????

Reason ? I think I am pretty spot on. I am just arguing that having a recruit honor a contract is not the same thing as slavery as some suggest. So your point ?

Exactly. One receives no money; the other receives millions among millions. Very similar.

He doesn't receive a free education valued around 200k, give or take a few thousand?? He may not see the money, but he won't have to pay for crap in school, besides late night munchies.

They're essentially negotiating a business deal. It's their business. The fact that fans find football entertaining doesn't make it the players' and owners' problem.

People are being forced to buy tickets? How is this cumpulsory purchase being enforced? Are local police forces in NFL cities rounding up those who don't comply?

Which was invalidated by the lies of everyone by the signee.

I'm sure the 'AA will get right on adding an amendment to the LOI, so you can get out of it that states, "If you are lied to during the process of your recruitment, even after you sign your LOI, you can ask for and receive your release for the school you signed with.". Every college basketball coach in America would be laughing at that, even the football coaches would be as well.

Then why not let everyone in for free, if they aren't forcing people to buy tickets without the guarantee of the season?? I know of 5 people that wouldn't spend the money on club seats this year, just because they would have had to pay for every game, even if they didn't play them.
