Tony Romo just said about Heupel

You don't know a f****** thing as usual. You don't have a clue what he wants or what he wants to do.

Exactly. And I’ll say this…and I’ve been preaching it for weeks. He is grossly underpaid. The greatest threat of losing him is if the administration sits on its hands and ducks the salary issue. He needs to be paid A LOT more. A LOT. And his staff likely does, too.

I don't see him doing anything like that. He seems to genuinely love it here. You can't coach at UT and not love it unless you're terrible at it...then you'll hate it. Luckily for us Heupel has been amazing. I think he knows he'll be treated like a king in TN at this point. You just can't leave something like that. Not in Knoxville.

The only thing that bugs me about Romo saying this is it sows the seeds of doubt heading into the biggest game of the season. It’s a distraction the team (and the fans) don’t need right now because it just causes drama and outside noise.

Romo can suck a fat banana.
I'm more concerned about other teams using stuff like this, true or not, to sow doubt in our recruits that Heupel won't be around.

A lot of college offenses have been tried in the NFL, and just don't work.
I think Heupel would be a good fit in the NFL due to his ability to relate to players. I think he's also capable of scheming offensively and being successful. The one thing about his system that I don't see translating to the NFL is the hurry up offense. Having said all that, I think it will all come down to where his heart is. I suspect it's in the college game. It's just different. Professionals and the NFL are just different and somewhat "sterile" by comparison. Don't know if that's the right word, but the color, pageantry and passion of the college game just has no equal in professional sports IMO. I think he's here for a good long while.

As a head coach, life is much easier in the NFL than college. That’s really the only draw. You don’t have to recruit 24/7 365. Other than that, College beats Pro in every other facet.

So, unless he hates recruiting, which I don’t see, or they offer him some Jimbo Fisher fully guaranteed contract, he won’t leave
Fortunately recruiting won’t be much of a challenge for him if he keeps winning like this

There is a long track record of college coaches flopping--and flopping badly-- in the pros--Saban, Spurrier, Meyer, to quickly name three. Ruhl just got canned--the latest hot college coach to get humbled by the NFL. The game is different. For starters, pro DBs are a LOT better than college DBs. Given all the high-profile college coaches who've failed in the NFL, I'm a little dubious that NFL GMs would be eager to hire ANY college coach. Heupel of course will do what he wants to do, and I'm sure he'll be prudent.

This is my fault guys. I literally was thinking in my head the other day. Who is better at what they do?

A. Tony Romo prediction of the next play
B. Josh Heupel always scheming receivers open

I never said it out loud but you can't trust these smart phones they always reading your mind. Somehow it got twisted into this. I guess I should have went ahead and made that poll question after all.

With NIL, I think this is the perfect job for him. He's going to make more here than in the NFL and he can build his own roster. As much as people want to scream "ITS THE SYSTEM!", it's also very much the players and player development. He'd do well as an NFL play caller, but his ceiling is much higher in college football than then pros.

His system doesn’t have a future in the NFL. Whereas he can write his own checks in college.
You think the NFL teams interested know less about what works in the NFL than you? That's a bold strategy cotton.

They see something because not every coach gets NFL interest. I suspect the NFL teams are looking at Heupel's offensive mind, not the specific system he's running in college. Coach Heupel understands moving the defense and getting favorable matchups and while that's harder to accomplish in the NFL because of the talent level, it's what every team tries to do.

Pay the man.

The NFL geniuses also thought Chip Kelly’s system would work in the pros.

Reminds me of all the Vitello rumors.

In deference to @vol66, he ain’t leaving.

In this case, this has to do with the rumor that the Steelers may dump Matt Canada. Steelers got a bye week coming this week. But yeah, he ain’t leaving.
