Tony Romo just said about Heupel

"NFL teams are interested, not saying he'll go", but said "just telling you, he's on the radar of every NFL team".. Jim Nantz followed "I know you and I know you know something" Romo followed up saying "he's wanted in the NFL"

UFO's are on radars as well. Doesn't mean they are real.;)

All his success has been at the college level. He had a cup of coffee on NFL practice squads and never shown an inclination for NFL employment. You need more of a Belichick take on life and relationships to flourish in the Mercenary Football League. Don’t see that in him.

I’m fairly convinced that Heupel’s circling Tennessee’s first conference game against Oklahoma on his calendar and he’s got a little extra something for the Sooners. I mean money talks, and pay him, but I feel like he’s a competitor and he would flat out want that game. Much more so than a coordinator gig somewhere.

Different animals.
Oh, I thought I was naming a coach that was successful in college then in the NFL. I should have known I wasn't answering the right question cause he hadn't been named yet. Lol.

Where's your buddy bearded? And how you doing?

As a head coach, life is much easier in the NFL than college. That’s really the only draw. You don’t have to recruit 24/7 365. Other than that, College beats Pro in every other facet.

So, unless he hates recruiting, which I don’t see, or they offer him some Jimbo Fisher fully guaranteed contract, he won’t leave

Life is not easier in the NFL. You have immense pressure to win immediately. You play 17-21 games plus a few preseason games. You work 18-20 hour days. The pay isn't really any higher either now. Used to be that NFL coaches made 2x or more what college coaches do. Now only McVay is paid that way. Belichick makes about what Saban does, Carroll makes about what Kirby does, and the remainder of NFL coaches make about what college coaches makes. Heupel right now makes more than half the coaches in the league. After this season is over, his salary here will likely be a top 8 NFL salary. Mel Tucker makes quite a bit more money than Andy Reid.

I didn’t know that was what you were attempting. Pete Carroll would’ve been another.

CJH is all about the college game. He ain't going to the NFL. He knows better. He will be here for a while raise a family and continue to get the support and $$$ he needs. He is not going to Chase the Wind because he does not have to do so.

Agree. I do believe he would be an amazing NFL coach because he is not winning due to the fact that he has all the best players such as Nick Saban or Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney, Ryan day, etc. He’s winning because of the X’s and O’s. Those are the guys that can thrive in the NfL. But if you’re a great X’s and O’s guy in the colleg game and can get elite level talent…man look out. That’s how dynasties are made. I think he’ll be our guy for a long time. We really do need to boost his pay and give him a massive buyout. That’ll be amazing for him (knowing how much belief we have in him) and it’ll be great for us as well knowing no other program could steal him away

I don’t think he goes the the NFL but best believe in the off-season there will be plenty of NFL staffs coming to him to see how he does what he does…

Pete Carroll was an NFL coach who came to college then went back. There's not been a truly successful long term only college to NFL transition in more than 25 years. Jimmy Johnson and Tom Coughlin were the last two really that I can think of. Jim Harbaugh is borderline, but he played in the NFL for 14 years and his San Francisco tenure was brief before it flamed out but he made a Super Bowl. The failure ratio is very high. The NFL has tried defensive wizards, offensive gurus, and they generally fall flat. There's a good 15-20 national championships among spectacularly failed NFL coaches. Spurrier, Saban, Holtz, Erickson, McKay etc. McKay won 4 national titles at USC and then went 44-88-1 in the NFL.

Heupel knows that he will be beloved and an absolute King at Tennessee. Why would anyone want to trade that for the cut throat business atmosphere that is the NFL? If he keeps developmingbteams the way he has shown he can, he can retire from here, have a statue made, streets named after him, and be spoken of lovingly for decades after his eventual death. Name a Pro franchise/city that can give him that

I think you’re right.
Like coach K at Duke. He knew it was a lot better gig than any NBA job.
He and others that could of moved to NBA, NFL were smart enough to know that it would be next level headache and not worth it.
