Tony Stewart ran over another driver.

To me it looked like Tony sorta slightly went at him trying to scare the kid, and didn't realize how close he really was.

Go around a corner blind in a high out put car on dirt. Let of the fuel, the ass slides.

Any of y'all ever race quads? Dirt bikes?

There are grooves you run in. If the vehicle is in the groove, you aren't getting out.

The guy engaged his car.

Ftr I don't watch nascar. I can watch a dog chase its tail.

I thought the Sheriff's department was investigating the incident? Some authority is investigating, and I want to wait for whatever report before making a conclusion.

Nope. No criminal charges. Per the cops or the prosecuting attorney. Intial evidence shows it as an accident.

Stewart was questioned and released by the Ontario County Sheriffs. He was believed to be heading back to Watkins Glen, NY where his team was getting ready for Sunday's Sprint Cup race.

Ontario County Sheriff Philip C. Povero emphasized that the investigation into the incident is not a criminal investigation and there are no charges pending at this time. It is being considered an "on-track crash investigation."

The District Attorney office was contacted regarding the incident. "When the investigation is complete, we will review it with them," Povero said.

What channel do these dog chases come on? I may need to set the dvr.

Don't be mad brah.

Real racing is 1/4 mile at a time. :)

I should post up pics of my friends car. He races all over the country. Loves the circle track.

I would like to know the results of the "on-track crash investigation." Maybe I am in the minority on this but I feel uncomfortable drawing a conclusion based solely on what I've seen and heard at this point.

I'm not mad. F1 is on break till September! I need more racing to fill the void.

F1 (not you) fans are the worst fans in racing. They think F1 is god's gift to the racing world and because of that I refuse to watch it. I respect F1 drivers and what they do but the fan base is horrible.

I dunno, I want to at least read the full police report, as they are likely to have evidence or testimony that we don't have at this point.

You know, due process and all that.

process smocess. He's either a cold blooded murderer or it was an innocent accident or somewhere in between. It's our job to guess.

They can be. I just love all racing (except nhra drag racing). I just love f1 most.

Same could be said for the vast majority of NASCAB fans.

Ah, a proper gentleman racer. I want to do that someday! Maybe the spec Miata series.

He has a crew and a racing shop. He's full on. It's all he ever wanted to do when we were kids. We all learned to drive though at the same place: the cotton fields.

Also true but from my experience the most hostile fans are from F1. Fans of IndyCar and Sportscar seem really cool as well.

I'm not defending any one fan base, because there's an idiot element to all of them, but at least F1 fans have never littered a race track with beer cans.

It's a terrible accident that could have been avoided. Sprint cars have limited to zero visibility for the drivers on the right side. He was wearing a black fire suit and helmet on a dimmly lit track. The 45 car barely missed him, and he was still moving down the track once that car passed. My guess is Tony did not see him until it was too late. Sprint cars are a handful to drive at race speed and even harder going 30-40 mph. The only way to get the car to turn that quick was to get on the gas, those who have never been around racing might not understand that but it is true. I hate the loss for his family and friends, but he should have never gotten out of his car.

I was there and don't recall such foolishness taking place.

I was there as well and it did indeed happen. In fact if you go back and watch the broadcast bob Varsha mentions it. Heck, race winner Michael Schumacher mentioned it.

Many in the crowd pointed thumbs down at the cars whizzed past. One fan waved a hastily handwritten sign that read, $ back. Another fan waved a sign requesting that the race be stopped. Others threw debris over a catch fence onto the racetrack.

"It was mainly bottles and a bit of beer as far as I could smell," Schumacher said.
