Top 10 CF teams of all time...

'98 UT wouldn't have wanted any piece of '01 Miami. That team was absolutely sick.

both the 98 and 01 UT teams would have held their own. Might not have won but I would have bought a ticket to watch it (and almost got to)

Virginia Tech kept it close, Boston College was ten yards and an unlucky bounce away from beating them. To say it wouldn't be close is a little silly.
I'm confident that they would mutilate any team they faced. If they were ever going to lose, it would be a game in which Coker couldn't keep them motivated. I don't think any team which was highly ranked would have had a chance.

I don't, that 95 Nebraska team was the most dominant team I have ever seen play in my life. I mean they put over 60 points on next years NC Florida.
Miami could have put up 60 if they wanted to, although that Nebraska team was not as good as the Florida team.

Do you not think they were up for that Va-Tech game? They were a borderline top 10 IIRC. Tech was a two point conversion from tying the game. Remember, Nebraska was coming off an absolute shellacking by Colorado.

Neither of us would have beaten Miami that year, but we would have kept it closer than Nebraska.

Very true.

I still think '95 Nebraska was a better TEAM than '01 Miami.

'01 Miami had a bunch of future of NFL 1st rounders, but they played like a bunch of freelancing individuals rather than a cohesive unit. They almost lost to Boston College and sleepwalked thru some games where it looked like they didn't care. This is what happens when Larry Coker is your coach.

Nebraska destroyed everyone they played in '95, including a Florida team many thought would easily outscore NU's outdated option attack.

They looked bad in two games. They posted some wins that were as impressive as any regular season wins that Nebraska had, IMO. 59-0 and 65-7 in back to back weeks over top 10 teams.

I don't think there are many teams that can claim to have had a better defense than that Miami team, either.

The 98 team wasn't even close to any of the top 10 teams.

They have been ranked very highly in some past polls, mainly on SOS, which was sick.

In the end, I put very little importance on these kind of hypothetical teams. The goal is to beat the guys on your schedule, not create the greatest team in history. The '98 Vols did that, and that is all that really matters.

Truth is, we'll never know how good '01 Miami was because they played a lame duck NU team that got absolutely pounded by Colorado in their season finale.

While I don't think '01 UF or '01 UT would have beaten Miami, we would've had a better comparison with an '95 NU team that absolutely destroyed a damn good UF team.

Nebraska probably wasn't as bad as people are making them out to be. They blew it against Colorado, but they were number 1 (at least in the BCS) for the entire season before that.

I'll also throw out that Nebraska struggled a lot with Miami in the past. Miami was the one team with a defense fast enough and good enough to stop them. The 1995 Huskers may have had a better offense than those Nebraska teams, but the 2001 Canes probably had the best defense of all those Miami teams as well.

Compare that to an undefeated '95 UF squad thought to be unstoppable offensively.

They were obviously good, but not a team the Canes would have trouble with. If the 1995 Gators played 2001 Miami, I'd predict something along the lines of a 45-13 Miami blowout win.
