Top 100 Guitarists of All Time

Joe Satriani is my favorite guitarist, and personally I think he is the best alive today in terms of his skill alone, outside of factors such as influence, career, etc.

Vai and Satch not being on the list is just plain stupid. I have absolutely no idea what the criteria is. The only thing I can think of is that Rhoads played for Ozzy. Vai did play with Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake though. Satch trained a number of guitarists on the list, but both he and Vai really made their names making music that really only appeals to musicians.

I would say your average dude on the street would recognize 30-50% of the names on the list at least, I can't think of a single non musician I've met that knows who Vai and Satch are off the top of their head.

Saw VH live in April in Nashville. Probably the best concert I've ever been to in my life. I'm 20 years old so I never thought I'd ever be able to witness a VH concert (let alone with Roth on vocals). Needless to say, EVH played remarkably and his solo was amazing...a man that's battled drugs, alcohol abuse, cancer and to still play the guitar like he's 20 years old...crazy.

My 1st VH concert was in KC in 77. They were one of the opening acts for the Steve Miller Band. I think that was the last time they led off for anyone. They arrived already.

I wish I had been in my teens and twenties throughout the 70s and 80s. Would've loved to experience the music scene during those decades.

Unless I missed it, Steve Howe is not on this list...thus removing all credibility.

Also, I hope to one day see the great Andy Wood on this list.

Andy Wood - A Disconcerting Amalgam - YouTube

Exactly, especially for a guy that is probably top 5 without breaking a sweat.

Howe was Guitar Players' guitarits of the year six years in a row, 1975-1980. That award is voted on by fellow guitarists in the business giving it tons of credibility.

There's an inherent flaw in this list. It's just too long. Narrow it down to top-50 or lower, I bet the mindset changes.
