Top 100 Guitarists of All Time

DT is great no doubt. Just don't see him as GOAT. To repeat my Page nomination - outstanding composer, outstanding rhythm player, outstanding soloist. A true triple threat. Hendrix is right there but the Zeppelin catalog is so full of inventive compositions and rhythm guitar it's hard to see who's done more across the spectrum of guitar playing than Page - IMHO of course.

I offered a song off Physical Graffiti early as evidence. Now I'll add this. Page does all of this - multiple rhythm compositions, execution and some killer leads. The consummate whole package

Some of the greatest drumming too in this song.

One could make an argument that Paco De Lucia is the greatest. Judge for yourself.

I wouldn't want to have to follow Satch on stage.

If you never saw Eddie Hazel play then you missed a treat. He was the lead guitarist for Funkadelic. Just listen to Maggot Brain and you'll see it is one of the greatest axe performances in history.

"Greatest" is such an unquantifiable term. I hate it when these lists pop up because it really boils down to one person(s) opinion. I think a more accurate way of saying it would be the most influential guitar players of all time. There you might can put together a fairly objective list.

Speaking for me, personally, the players that inspired/influenced me the most would have to be...

Ace Frehley
Jimmy Page
Pete Townsend
David Gilmour
Tony Iommi
Tom Scholz
Neil Schon
Alex Lifeson
Angus/Malcom Young
Eddie Van Halen
Gary Rossington/Ed King
Randy Rhoads
John Petrucci
John Sykes
Gary Moore
Buckethead
Dave Murray/Adrian Smith

Nice mention of these performers as well. Have you listened to Adrian Smith's recent collaboration with Richie Kotzen? Quality material

I was actually shocked at how good it is. I’ve seen Richie’s name floated around as a replacement for Chris Cornell in Soundgarden. I hope they pursue that at some point.
