Top 5 hitters not on roids?

Prolly not even in the top 100.

I'd argue that. His numbers are as solid as some of the others mentioned. He just wasnt the "slugger" that they were. There is nothing wrong with hitting for average, and certainly nothing wrong with his OBP as a lead off hitter.

Biggio's lifetime average was around .280 I believe.

Hornsby is incredibly underrated.

I am convinced Ichiro could hit 30 bombs a year if he wanted too.
Hornsby was fabulous, but didn't have the all around stick that Gehrig did, IMO.

Ichiro swinging at 30 bombs would watch his average fall to about 275. That whole beating out singles things just doesn't work for me in an all time great conversation. By that standard, Carew should be on all lists.

What about Ty Cobb? At 41 he hit .357.

I don't know. Ichiro is amazing. What he has done since coming over has been remarkable and probably won't ever be done again. Probably doesn't belong in the top 5 but I'll put him in the top 20 no doubt.

When names like Williams, Ruth, Hornsby, Musial, Gehrig, Cobb, etc get brought up, people just like foolish bringing up Chipper. He's been good don't get me wrong but nothing compared to the others mentioned.

Agreed. He also had one very explosive season that looks like a bit of an anomoly.

How about Manny? I'll assume that he's clean. He's one of the top 3 RH hitters to ever put on a uniform.

i don't think I've seen Jimmie Foxx on this list and I'd take Hang Greenberg over Chipper

My top five would likely be:

Williams
Ruth
DiMaggio
Hornsby
Gehrig

Hornsby batted over .400 3 different times. That's impressive. I'd like to add Joe Jackson, but he didn't have the slugging %, nor the length of time.

Who was/is better? Mike Schmidt or Chipper? I'm voting Schmidt.

I brought him up because I don't like getting into arguments about players I have never seen.

We can have this debate all day, but I place all my players in eras. There is no possible way you can compare Chipper Jones and Ty Cobb, at all. There are so many variables that it's crazy to start even trying to.

His name has not come up one time. Not once. As big of a punk as he is you'd think someone out there if they had something would have already came forward....

When Chipper is 100% healthy I'll take him all day long.

Valid point. In this "era", I'd go with

Albert Pujols
Manny
Gwynn
Ichiro
Mike Schmidt (if he counts)
