His name has not come up one time. Not once. As big of a punk as he is you'd think someone out there if they had something would have already came forward....

That's hardly reason to assume cleanliness. I hope he is, but I don't believe it in the least.

Valid point. In this "era", I'd go with

Albert Pujols
Manny
Gwynn
Ichiro
Mike Schmidt (if he counts)

I wouldn't put Schmidt in the same era as Albert, Manny, and Ichiro. I will say that I would take his numbers over Chipper's though, even though Chipper was a lot more consistent at the plate.

brett was barely a .300 hitter and never hit over 30 jimmy jacks.

schmidt didn't have the avg, but his power numbers were clearly better. I know you don't care for singles hitters, but Gwynn has a .338 BA. Can't ignore that. Ichiro's is right around .330.

I cannot believe that I read through a thread about greatest hitters of all time....and didn't see anybody mention Pete Rose

because he's clearly not one of them? he's just a creation of longevity.

I will say this. Jones and Schmidt would be a deadly #3 and #4. They both are pretty much epitome of those spots in the lineup.

Longevity is part of the equation that makes a baseball player great.

why? By your assumptions, Cal Ripken is the greatest player ever. Thinking that because someone got to play injury and war free for a long time makes them great is nothing short of absurd.

Its PART of the equation.....just thinking ichiro's a better hitter than Pete Rose sounds absurd IMO.

I think your answer there lies in the fact that almost every manager in history would leadiff with Ichiro over Rose.

i'll take a lifetime .333 BA everyday over someone who could only muster up anything above that 3 times in 24 seasons. If Rose had the ability to hit HRs, you might have a case, but he kept those numbers in the teens.

Also if Ichiro played in the MLB since he was 22, or younger, he'd be breathing down Rose's neck if he was able to play that long.

I must say, Sean Casey really was one of the nicest guys in baseball. He just interviewed with 104.5 here in Nashville. What a great interview, he is now on the MLB Network.
