1 NC 2 schools on probation couldn't win the big one with that loaded Memphis team. Choked this year. Don't give Cal the HOF yet. 38-1 ultimately sucks for UK. That's why yall had a riot in Lexington.

Was he ever going to realistically going to win a title at UMass? No. He did amazing to recruit and put together a loaded Memphis team. Title game. At UK, even though he's got only 1 title, I'd still say he's been one of the best coaches in that time span. Right now he's 1/4 in the Final Four (winning the title).

"38-1 ultimately sucks for UK". Tied the most wins in a season, our own record. Lost to another top 5 team, probably the 3rd or 4th imo. Not like we bombed out like UVA, Nova or Kansas.

Cal is a good coach and is a great recruiter. The expectation was a UK title. Nova, UVA etc... Are irrelevant.
Want to keep setting records winning and coming one or two games short of a title?
The UK fans I know are pissed and they consider the 1 in the 38-1 a losing season.

Cal's coached about half as many games as Coach K. I looked it up awhile back and I think Cal is around or just over 700 games coached in college. Coach K is somewhere between 1300-1400 games coached. On the flipside, Cal has one NC. Coach K has 5 NCs.

Cal is a phenominal recruiter, but he hasn't proven he's a great X's and O's coach. His current teams are built solely on talent. Most of their games are currently won because the opposition doesn't even come close in talent level. Coach K has won both ways. He's won by out-talenting teams, but he's also won through X's and O's.

Honestly, I'm not sure how good of a coach Cal is. The only way to know is to give him an average team and see how he does against similar teams. Right now though, he's a product of his recruiting. KY benefits from his ability to sell ice to Eskimos, but that doesn't make him a great coach, just a great salesman.

Coach K didn't have a roster full of NBA players. He had some but not a roster full of them. Same goes with Wisconsin. They didn't have a roster full of NBA players either. Bo Ryan simply out coached Cal the whole entire game with less talent. This makes the 4th year that he's had the #1 recruiting class now? With only one national title to show for it. Like I said, he can get the #1 recruiting class every year all he wants too but it aint going to matter if he can't coach or prepare his teams right. Cal should at least have 2 more national titles right now with all that talent he's had on his teams. There shouldn't be any excuse considering he's had more talent than any college basketball team these past few years. No excuse whatsoever.

National Championships are as much luck as anything. 6 total Final Fours and a National Title. Only missed three Final Fours since 2008. That's impressive. That's good coaching. Quit bashing Cal just because you don't have him. It makes you look foolish. You certainly better not be bragging about how good Barnes is in other threads if you're going to act like Cal isn't good or HOF worthy.

X's and O's is what defines being a coach. I get that you're a Kentucky fan. And you support your coach. But you cannot honestly believe that he is anything more than an average coach.

If he went to 5 tournaments at UT and went to the Final Four in four of them, with a national title, you'd be bashing him for not winning enough? From a fanbase that gets excited about 7-6 football seasons, I find that very very hard to believe.

I'll restate this again. For the amount of talent he had there was no excuse not to win it all. A good coach would have gotten them into the NC game and likely have won it. A GOOD COACH. There was enough talent on that team to field 2-3 D1 teams. Going undefeated doesn't mean crap unless you win the NC game and he didn't.

My personal opinion is that he brings in talent with the idea of "I will let you play to display your talent so you can get to the league." That works great for getting player to the second level, which is what he says he's all about anyways. A Good coach would put the team ahead of the player and put them in the best position to win. I also get this this idea based on the fact he didn't let his team watch game film on the team they are about to play. Tell me what good coach would do that? A good coach would prepare his/her team in every way possible.

The 1 game they lost falls completely on CAL. I could argue all the game they won were based completely on the talent they had on the court. Which falls back to his recruiting. I will never argue he's a bad recruiter because he is the best recruiter in the country. But he's not on the level of other coaches.. not even close to some.

No. He's better than anything we've ever had. But, that's not what I'm arguing.

I'm arguing that he's vastly overrated and does less with more. Seven NBA players and no National title? That's unbelievable.
