Tracking Saban's Replacement Thread

Would be an epic lie if Lanning left Oregon. Has told them every time someone asked, as recent as 2 weeks ago he ain’t leaving.

Lanning says undying loyalty to Oregon but will Oregon always be loyal to him. It’s a two way street so it’s short sighted for him to limit his prospects like that. Plus I just don’t see him a real threat at Bama. Right now he’s just the flavor of the month. Good coach but is he a star? Not a big enough sample size to convince me right now

They won't do it, but with Lanning and Sark telling them no, Bama would be better off hiring an upcoming coordinator like Warren Ruggiero or Garrett Riley. Guys that are hungry to make their own name. Rather than a coach like Deboer who would be chasing the money.

The best part is that fanbase is so disillusioned that literally anyone will be a disappointment to them. Belicheck might suffice, but they hold Saban is such high esteem, that there is no slam dunk hire. I can't wait for the meltdown.

For salary reference

1. Nick Saban, Alabama (No. 1 overall): $11.407 million
2. Kirby Smart, Georgia (No. 3 overall): $10.706 million
3. Brian Kelly, LSU (No. 6 overall): $9.975 million
4. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M (No. 7 overall): $9.15 million
5. Mark Stoops, Kentucky (No. 8 overall): $9.014 million
6. Josh Heupel, Tennessee (No. 9 overall): $9 million
7. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss (No. 10 overall): $9 million
8. Billy Napier, Florida (No. 16 overall): $7.27 million
9. Hugh Freeze, Auburn (No. 20 overall): $6.5 million
10. Sam Pittman, Arkansas (No. 22 overall): $6.358 million
11. Shane Beamer, South Carolina (No. 24 overall): $6.125 million
12. Eliah Drinkwitz, Missouri (No. 25 overall): $6 million
13. Clark Lea, Vanderbilt (No. 56 overall): $3.052 million
14. Zach Arnett, Mississippi State No. (58 overall): $3 million

I think DeBoer, but I believe they will go all in on Norvell to save face. After that it will be a promotion. One can only hope it slides that far, but I am totally doubtful.
I tuned into a Washington radio station that was supposed to have an interview with DeBoer today that DeBoer postponed. They claim he is meeting with the AD to hammer out the long term contract extension.
If contract extension terms are not met quickly he will accept the Alabam offer.

Not sure I believe that but.....................there it is.

Honestly, I never heard of Deboer before the playoffs. What connection makes him the slam dunk hire to follow the greatest coach in the modern era of college football? After years of planning for Saban’s inevitable departure, this was the plan?

It's not going to be DeBoer unless the Gumps just flat out offer him beyond stupid money with stupid terms. WA will probably match up to 9-10 mil so why leave?

One thing you know for sure, they will not be hiring a Kiffen, Dooley, Jones or a Pruitt.

NEVER follow a legend. Look at the coaches who took the Bama job after Bear and then failed to land a quality HC job afterward. As a HC, do you want a career or a fast cash grab? I think most coaches in their prime want a career. Bama will not hire an unproven coach. I'm still of the opinion that Kiffin is the only fit and it will ultimately go to him when the other proven coaches reject the offer.
