Tracking Saban's Replacement Thread

The best part is that fanbase is so disillusioned that literally anyone will be a disappointment to them. Belicheck might suffice, but they hold Saban is such high esteem, that there is no slam dunk hire. I can't wait for the meltdown.
You don’t think Kirby would satisfy them?

Why leave Notre Dame? People don't want to hear it but the Gump job isn't that attractive at this moment. Why would any coach in a good job want to jump into that frying pan?
If you listen to Josh Pate, he will try and convince you that Bill Belichick left NE at just the possibility of being considered for Bama and that every good coach in America is just begging for the job. I used to like Josh but his popularity is turning him into typical media who thinks they are better than everyone else, I much preferred him a few years ago before becoming so pompous.

Agree but I believe there is no one but Kirby they would find acceptable….

Dan Lanning would have been a good fit at Alabama but he turned it down.

The National Title or bust argument is probably a little ridiculous because Alabama only won 1 in the last 6 years. I do think the coach needs to keep them near 10 wins and top ten rankings and that maybe hard.

The difference there is Saban built a ton of Equity in the decade prior that allowed him some grace for not winning those Nattys. The next coach won't have any of that equity.

Yeah but their admin is not going to fire someone going 10-2, etc.

Now if they dip to 7-5 and 8-4 (which very well could happen), I see the heat coming.

And that's why barring some miracle hire, Alabama football is almost certainly doomed to middle of the pack in the SEC for a while.

DeBoer does seem most likely at this point. Would Bama hire an offensive-minded HC?

Exactly.. their fans are spoiled and crazy 😂 (worse than us in the crazy department lol)

NEVER follow a legend. Look at the coaches who took the Bama job after Bear and then failed to land a quality HC job afterward. As a HC, do you want a career or a fast cash grab? I think most coaches in their prime want a career. Bama will not hire an unproven coach. I'm still of the opinion that Kiffin is the only fit and it will ultimately go to him when the other proven coaches reject the offer.

Unless you're calling the Finebaum show after that doofus "Legend"... as it would even make Pruitt sound intelligent! (OK, maybe that's a stretch, but you get my point.)

Note to Paul's advertisers: when the dude comes on, I turn off your show after 10-15 secs; it's truly unlistenable

Why are you paying Norvell more than DeBoer? DeBoer is one of those guys who just wins wherever he is ala Urban. And like Urban the recruiting will come with the wins regardless of prior relationships and experiences down here.
Lol I was roughly right on the contract length for Norvell. I only had Norvell higher because of Bama's desperation level if DeBoer passed. Now the pressure shifts on Bama to land DeBoer. What I would predict now is with FSU going 10 & 8 DeBoer would be looking at that as his starting point.

Didn't the gumps fire Bill Curry for going 10-2?

Before my time but looked it up. Curry left because he didn't like the contract extension apparently:

In early 1990, Alabama tendered Curry a new contract which contained provisions he disliked, including no raise and removal of his power to hire and fire assistants.[12] Curry was particularly upset by this since he'd led the Tide to a share of its first SEC title and its first major-bowl appearance since the Bryant era. He responded by accepting an offer to become the head coach at the University of Kentucky.

The key was he was 0-3 vs Auburn. That is the indicator to watch out for with Alabama fan patience (same with any team). If you can't beat your rival, and by extension your rival fan's base drives your fan base nuts, that usually creates the heat.

That is why I see, a coach going 10-2 every year but losing to Auburn or Georgia constantly would likely get the ax. Saban never lost to a team more than 2 times in a row.
