Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

The more I'm reading about the Rockies forbidding teams of giving him a physical, the more I find myself agreeing with you.

I have plenty of criticisms of Walt Jocketty, but I think he dodged a bullet there, especially at the exorbitant price the Rockies were asking. I'm pretty sure the Rockies wants Mesoraco, Yonder and a pitcher or two (Wood or Bailey, maybe a prospect thrown in as well), and Jock rightly told them where to stick it.

Not really sure I get that.

If he passes the physical, I don't see an issue. With Bucholz looking at being shut down, you need another arm, and a healthy Harden is better than Lackey, Wakefield, or Miller.

Lars Anderson and a PTBNL isn't an exorbitant price.

I think the Rox made a good deal here. White and Pomeranz are almost ready to pitch. They'll still be able to compete by 2012. Looks like a good deal for them.
White and Pomeraz are both going to be better major leaguers than Jimenez. Worst trade in 20 years.

Can we please quit acting like Michael Bourn is anything other than a slightly better version of Willie Tavares.
Its amazing how journeyman caliber players turn into Robin Yount in the public eye during the last week of July.

The Reds will realize next year that holding on to Travis Wood is the same as not pulling the plug on Tom Browning in '87. A step back, then excellence. Bank on it.

Worst trade in twenty years? Bagwell for Anderson doesn't exist?
Larry Anderson was a key component to the Sox making the postseason. Cleveland is going to finish 3rd in the division and Jimenez is going to blow his ebow. Next question?

I agree- the Rox got a great deal

He was a key component that season. Did the Sox break the "curse" that year? No. Plus, he only played about a month for Boston.

And Bagwell went on to have a Hall of Fame career. But hey, don't tell that to hatvol. Andersen helped them for a third of a season.

You bumpkins can't grasp the driving forces behind deadline deals. It isn't rocket science.

It's not that "we bumpkins" can't grasp the driving forces behind these deals, it's just that some of them pan out horribly.

Anderson filled the role he was brought in to fill, naturally, it would have been nice to keep Bagwell, but you need to pull the trigger sometimes. Comparing numbers on a 1:1 scale as to judging a deadline trade is asinine.

He's a 4.9, 4.8 WAR player the last two years. He is one of the three best base stealers in baseball and plays great defense. He is having a career year. He's a good player. Taveras put a 3.5 WAR for one year. He's way better than Taveras.

Good. Let's see how much better Bourn makes a team. I try not to go full on assault against all of you SABR people. However, you are the people that thought signing Adam Dunn was a good idea. It's not hard to laugh at the pure numbers guys these days.

Dunn is one player.

Bourn will make a team better. Do I think he makes the instant WS contenders? No. He's a leadoff guy, and while having a leadoff guy is important, it's not important if nobody can hit behind him.

Bourn is a hell of a lot better than McLouth and Schafer. Bourn gets on base at a decent clip, and he's a huge threat on the basepaths. The Braves have guys behind him that could drive him in. He's also an outstanding defensive CF.

If the price to acquire him isn't too exorbitant, go for it. If they're unreasonable and want way more than he's worth, stand pat.

Which is why the Braves should look elsewhere. Bourn isn't going top score many runs when the only reliable RBI threat in the lineup is on the DL.

?

Freeman has been excellent and done a job as an RBI threat.

Uggla is now Uggla and has been amazing in July.

Chipper is still a good RBI threat.

The Braves can drive him in. The 2-5 players have not been the issue. It's been leadoff and 6-8.

Given my abject hatred of the Braves, I have but one thing to say. Please burn prospects to acquire Michael Bourn.

Well, they've already refused to include Vizcaino or Delgado in a trade for him. I'd assume they wouldn't fork over Teheran either. Minor? Maybe, I could see it.
