The more I'm reading about the Rockies forbidding teams of giving him a physical, the more I find myself agreeing with you.
The Reds will realize next year that holding on to Travis Wood is the same as not pulling the plug on Tom Browning in '87. A step back, then excellence. Bank on it.I have plenty of criticisms of Walt Jocketty, but I think he dodged a bullet there, especially at the exorbitant price the Rockies were asking. I'm pretty sure the Rockies wants Mesoraco, Yonder and a pitcher or two (Wood or Bailey, maybe a prospect thrown in as well), and Jock rightly told them where to stick it.
Anderson filled the role he was brought in to fill, naturally, it would have been nice to keep Bagwell, but you need to pull the trigger sometimes. Comparing numbers on a 1:1 scale as to judging a deadline trade is asinine. It's not that "we bumpkins" can't grasp the driving forces behind these deals, it's just that some of them pan out horribly.
Can we please quit acting like Michael Bourn is anything other than a slightly better version of Willie Tavares.
Good. Let's see how much better Bourn makes a team. I try not to go full on assault against all of you SABR people. However, you are the people that thought signing Adam Dunn was a good idea. It's not hard to laugh at the pure numbers guys these days. He's a 4.9, 4.8 WAR player the last two years. He is one of the three best base stealers in baseball and plays great defense. He is having a career year. He's a good player. Taveras put a 3.5 WAR for one year. He's way better than Taveras.

Dunn is one player.
Bourn will make a team better. Do I think he makes the instant WS contenders? No. He's a leadoff guy, and while having a leadoff guy is important, it's not important if nobody can hit behind him.
Which is why the Braves should look elsewhere. Bourn isn't going top score many runs when the only reliable RBI threat in the lineup is on the DL.

Bourn is a hell of a lot better than McLouth and Schafer. Bourn gets on base at a decent clip, and he's a huge threat on the basepaths. The Braves have guys behind him that could drive him in. He's also an outstanding defensive CF.
If the price to acquire him isn't too exorbitant, go for it. If they're unreasonable and want way more than he's worth, stand pat.

Given my abject hatred of the Braves, I have but one thing to say. Please burn prospects to acquire Michael Bourn.Dunn is one player.
