Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

With his last start against them being the exception, Ubaldo usually shuts down the anemic Braves offense. I just can't see Ubaldo being anything higher than a #3 guy for any team with decent pitching.

He would easily be the number 2 guy in NY...and for a lot of teams

Tampa Bay is the most well run organization in baseball, I would say.

And there really is zero reason for them to trade Shields, unless someone offers something absolutely retarded.

Just going off what Olney said. They were "listening" for offers.

Oh i know. He is one that teams would want. I just don't know if he's as available as everyone thinks/thought at the start of the year.

The Reds are going to end up way overpaying for a starter. They are trying to go after every starter that is mentioned.
Sam LeCure just keeps getting people out. The Reds organization keeps acting as if that's not happening. It's amazing how little regard Jocketty and Co. put on their own players.

I like Lecure and he has done a hell of a job, but I don't think he's the answer to our woes.

He'd do every bit as well as guys like Guthrie and Kuroda and costs you less money and no prospects. Guthrie doesn't suck because he's on a bad team, he sucks because he sucks.

Here's my question Reds fans:

Do you think you are "true contenders" this year?

You have a young team. I felt last year (while you guys were a heck of a ball team), I thought you overachieved and played in a semi-weak division.

You have almost no chance at the WC. And the Brewers/Cards will make moves to.

You guys sound like you need more than one piece to become serious threats.

So, you guys have a problem moving some of the farm to try and get the playoffs? Even if you do, I can't imagine you as WS threats.

A panic move to overpay for a guy would actually set the organization and future back a little bit.

Exactly what moves are the Brewers and Cardinals going to make? Milwaukee has already cleaned out their system of prospects and St. Louis doesn't have the depth to get anything of real value.

That's what I was thinking.

I mean, getting Ubaldo is a little different, because he's under contract for a couple more years.

But paying for a left fielder, or a Kuroda/Guthrie, IDK.

The Cards could get quite a haul for Rasmus. The Brewers might make a small upgrade at short (Jamey Carroll).

What you think Hat? You're the GM of the Reds. What's your plan?

The Reds are in as good of a position as anyone to make a move as the have a lot of duplicate parts in the minors. Alonso is blocked by Votto. We have two of the top 5 catching prospects in baseball. We have Wood/Leake/Bailey. Then we have guys like Juan Francisco and Todd Frazier who aren't great prospects but they have nothing left to prove in the minors but can't get into the Reds lineup. Making a trade for a big time starter will not set the team back in anyway unless the starter is a rental and I don't think anyone the Reds have been looking at are.

YOu want Ubaldo?
