Transfer Portal 22-23

How many game changers do you need on a team to be successful? This isn't to start an argument but i am actually curious as to what people think.

For me it's 1-2 (maybe 3). To me it is more of the system fit than anything. Game changers can be on both sides of the ball. We know Rickea is a game changer and a healthy TK is a game changer on the defensive side because at her best she is the best defensive post in the league. I look at a team like indiana who had a great system but maybe 1-2 game changers. Before their star player got hurt they were rolling. Iowa had one real game changer with a post that was good! LSU had 2 game changers but people who stepped up when called upon (Carson was a game changer in the Natty).

Uconn has always played 6-7 players a lot of minutes. All their players are really good and they've got superstars out of HS but maybe 1-2 of them keep that title when they step into uconn. They all are just really good at what they do.

So for TN Rickea is rickea and if she improves even more and plays hungry she is even more of a game changer. Now, the part is going to be who is going to be the game changer or two with who is on the roster. Wells can be a steadying hand at PG in my books that is huge game changer as we will have someone who can consistently score from the spot and keep defenders honest. She should keep the ball in her hands as she is also a good FT shooter. Jill is going to have the opportunity to be a game changer as well. Hopefully we see a healthy inshape TK by seasons end and the team will have enough time to gel with her being back.

This isn't to say I don't want another piece or 2 (because i do) on the roster i just want them to be the right piece. A solid contributor or 2 who adds to our depth and isn't a cancer on the team would help tremendously because you never know the impact of that type of player ( for us that's been Snoop, Jill, etc) .
Right now we have one for sure don’t know how others will do just speculation. Need someone like Coulibaly and a big to back up Key.

Five other players someone should look at are Shay Bolin number 33 on the 2022 Hoopfgurlz top 100 didn't hardly play at all for Duke. Jordyn Merritt was a very good player before an injury played end of season for Florida. Denae Fritz a combo guard that started for Iowa State only a freshman. Imani Lester number 57 on the top 100 Hoopgurlz list out of Louisville. Indya Nivar number 20 in the top 2022 top 100 out of Stanford.
I like Fritz and Nivar also

Hate to be negative cause I’m a big orange fan in all sports. I just want to win 🏈🏀⚾🥎

Are you being negative? It's an opinion and i can respect that. I think any true Big 🍊 fan wants to win and wants what is best for the team. I think we have pieces that are gonna be serviceable and i think we will see more team ball instead of hero ball. I also am one who thinks getting Wells is going to pay off and i think that'll equal more wins :)

Heck, one of the emojis is baseball and they seem to be HOPEFULLY turning the corner with 2 huge wins over the #4 team in the country.

Look, Wells was a good get and a very encouraging start to the portal season for Kellie. Strickland was obviously a desperation take after some of the bigger fish they were targeting moved on. And oh by the way, Pissott - the one and only All-American Kellie has been able to land out of high school and arguably the player with the highest ceiling for improvement on the team - inexplicably left. And we know now the reason wasn't the imminent arrival of an upgrade from the portal like so many here speculated... something doesn't pass the smell test here.

Meanwhile LSU and South Carolina seem on the verge of landing the likes of HVL and Morrow. I find it hard to see a compelling argument that Kellie is any closer now to closing the gap with the teams ahead of her. And unless you're happy with third place finishes and Sweet 16 ceilings - which evidently many here are - I'm not sure how you couldn't feel disappointment with Kellie's offseason portal recruiting...
You folks keep talking about scoring from old & new guards/forwards, but nobody talks about the high value of having Key back!! It is huge for this team!

I said it! I said a healthy Key is a difference maker! People won't drive the lane like last year. And if we can get the junior key that learned how to stay outta foul trouble people are in trouble. Her health (most importantly) and fitness level will be 🔑 (no pun intended) for the team this year

I hope having her back at a savvy junior veteran level is a fair expectation. I am praying 🙏 for her and her physicians.

We won’t have a problem scoring. It’s the defense that must get better.
With the current roster we will have a hard time scoring, that’s why we need another scoring threat. Do u not remember the scoring droughts last year? I know people will say we have 5’5 Wells but I’m not counting her as a go to scorer in the big games. We need someone besides Rickea that can get a bucket when needed, and the rest are role players.

you’re not counting her as a go to scorer, but a lot of others are. you’re hyper fixated on her height, but she’s proved she can score on elite teams at that height. you’re also discrediting hollingshed and key. hollingshed will be a double digit scorer and if key is completely healthy she is a game changer on the defensive end - and will score her points.

I don’t go on what other say, others said we had a final four roster going into last season, I was one of the people that said the roster was very flawed and I was right. I’m all for feel good stories but I really look at their games and I give my opinion. I’m not saying I’m right but that’s how I truly feel. Of course once the season starts I’ll be rooting like crazy but if we don’t get more I’ll know the expectations on my part.

You live in fear. Relax.
Fear can be healthy. It is programmed into your nervous system, and gives you the survival instincts you need to keep yourself safe from danger. Fear is unhealthy when it makes you more cautious than you really need to be to stay safe, and when it prevents you from doing things you would otherwise enjoy.

So do think we get anybody else or that’s it

I’m semi retired. I volunteer to go on a recruiting trip if y’all agree to finance it. I’m taking Jumper, Darth and Madtown!!!!

commotion, demotion and emotion

So tell me who u can have to get a bucket when needed besides Rickea, and I’m talking about big games not games against inferior competition?

Last year it was Kea and JH
this year it will be Kea and the "next-man-up"

Basketball is like a bucket of water
A player comes along and puts their fist in and then, opens their hand
the bucket is full
the player takes it out and a new player puts in their fist,
once opened...people forget what the other hand looked like
