Transfer Portal 22-23

It isn't just about blocking shots, it is an intimidation factor. She makes everyone trying to get to the basket think adjustment on their shot or just don't go into the paint. I don't think there is another player out there that has her Length, instinct or timing that can do on the defensive end what she can do. Part of that is her background in Volley ball. Her mother was a college volley ball player so that may have something to do with it. 119 blocks in a season wipes away 238 points. 7-8 points a game wiped away and then she gets her 10.5 per game. That is about an 18 point swing in a game just from her. That wins a lot of basketball games. To put that in context, Boston led the SEC this year with 73 averaging 26 minutes per game. To think this year Tamari will have Legit backups and can play aggressive. The possibilities.
think about Tamari and Jillian on the floor together

Do u think we have a final four roster?

Maybe posted already but Lauren Gustin out of BYU in the portal. JR averaging 16 pts and 16 rebs. 6’1” F playing in the WCC. Traditionally one of the worst conferences IMO but BYU is a strong team generally.

We still haven’t addressed the loss of Horston, I don’t think rebounding will be the problem, it will be the scoring droughts when Rickea is on the bench or when they double her, maybe Jillian can make a leap and give us more because I know she has the talent. If we would be able to get Jefferson and Padilla I would have liked our chances against Lsu and Sc, that would have given us one of the best starting 5’s in the country. I don’t think we are as good as last season and I think we will barley make the tournament and maybe win one game, but all that changes if we can get more help from what’s left in the portal.
Just by what some have said on here we want be getting any, just like I said backups will be all we get

I notice people like to attack the messenger but not the message, tell me one thing I’ve said about her game that’s not true?
I’m waiting with you DP. If she were in SC or UConn, people here would be saying “she is tall not that good of a basketball player”. No one has said they dislike the person. You can critique a player playing style all you want. That is what fans do. Doesn’t make you any less a fan of the team.

those seem like locks ... Most importantly who is the game changer who may enter 🤔

I was looking at the P5 all-conference first teams and it's hard to say, but some options (didn't include anyone who said they were coming for a 5th year, though that's not impossible either given what happened with Celeste Taylor):
  • Olivia Miles
  • Ta'Niya Latson
  • Georgia Amoore
  • Deja Kelly
  • Sonia Citron
  • Alyssa Ustby
  • Makira Cook (already transferred so I think would have to sit out an extra year)
  • Emily Kiser
  • Jaz Shelley (also already transferred)
  • Sarah Andrews
  • Zakiyah Franklin
  • DeYona Gaston
  • Rori Harmon
  • JJ Quinerly
  • Raegan Beers
  • Cameron Brink
  • Gianna Kneepkens
  • Charlisse Leger-Walker
  • Rayah Marshall
  • Alissa Pili
  • Angel Reese (lol, of course already transferred, too)
Pretty much all of these would be shocking, except maybe Quinerly following her coach to Minnesota, or maybe one of the Texas players given the drama down there this year. Oregon State hasn't exactly been holding onto players recently so I could see Raegan Beers, too.

I’m thinking Quinerly

Gustin is a ball magnet. She’s an absolute beast on the boards. for her size, she just knows where to position herself to get the board over taller girls. i’ve watched her play quite a bit when they had a good team. she’s had to carry the load this year.
Wait, this girl is 6'1" and averages 16 rebounds a game? Sign her immediately. Not to speak of the 16 pts. Averaged a double double? I know it's BYU but why have I not heard about her? Can she play any D at all? Ever shoot 3s?

With Karo who got into the blocking act a bit last year.... Add another post and that's def scary
With a healthy and fit TK, I think the 4-5 grp of TK, Jill and Karo will be very good. Add a young post for extra backup, and I'm really happy with our frontcourt. Lots of versatily and experience.

However, TK is a big and important question mark in my mind. Has she ever been completely cleared? Is she able to fully condition again? Just defensively as a presence, she adds a ton, obviously. But I'll be honest, she frustrated me alot towards the end of her jr. season, before the illness, for exactly the issues discussed ad nauseum above. I have zero question about TK's want to and dedication and I'm sure she'll work on all those areas for one last go round. I'll feel better about next season when I hear there's real progress being made towards that end. A healthy TK playing well would be huge for us.

Who is left in the portal that we may have a chance with and would actually make us better? I've tried to find an updated list of WBB transfer portal players but haven't seen one. Seems like we need more, but looking like we won't get more.
We want get any

Gustin was Co-Defensive POY in the conference. This is good.

She only took 15 3s and hit just 3 of them, for 20%. Has only shot about 20 3s total her whole career. Averaged 54% ft shooting last season. These things are not good.

But dang, this girl is a rebounding machine.
