Well nobody has a crystal ball Max, but in spite of some posters believing that the young and mostly inexperienced SC talent will immediately rise to the level of even adequate replacements for the departed 7 seniors may be getting ahead of themselves. There is raw talent there to be sure, but it will take a season to develop and produce at a similar level as the ladies that left, four of whom played together as starters for four seasons.
I get everyone expecting the team that just won something like 42 straight games before the Iowa loss to just reload based upon the pedigree of the Replacements, but it never works that way. When you lose the corps of a four year unit you lose 4 years of experience and cohesion. There will be growing pains and lessons learned, which will result in the inevitable setbacks and losses.
2023-2024 season will be a rebuilding and learning experience for this new team, and all the new roles will be learned by mostly new starters, 5 new starters to be exact. I believe most will watch SC in this next season and see those trials and tribulations and start posting that SC is on a downfall after seeing they will struggle in this process to become equal to the task of last year’s squad. Fine. Just remember that the following season for SC will see at a minimum 4 returning starters. They are building for 2024 imo.
SC is going to take some hard lumps next season, hard by their recent standards, but I believe any early prognostications of a downfall will be wrong, it’s a one year rebuild and reload scenario imo. I stand by my prediction of 7-10 losses next season, and that would not be discouraging in the least to anyone who understands the age and experience of this roster going into 2024-2025 with that newfound experience from next season. There is a potential, I believe likely, phenom amongst the ten players on the current roster btw, true freshman Fulwiley, who has a chance to be a record breaker.
The last time SC lost 10 games they graduated A’ja Wilson and didn’t really bring in talented replacements. That team lacked cohesion and talent. I think this team will lack a little cohesion to start but is 10x times more talented. The most losses I see for them at most next year is 3-4. Most of the time SC’s bench and provided more than the starters did. Johnson wasn’t starting but was playing way more minutes and more of a factor at PG than Fletcher. A lot of times during the season SC got off to slow starts because of the starters. They lost 7 seniors but the only players SC will miss is Boston, Cooke, Beal and Amihere IMO. Fletcher and Saxton were good role players but definitely replaceable hell they got replaced in the FF and never should’ve started that second half. IMO that’s the reason SC lost to Iowa. I also see you think SC will lose 5-6 SEC games and I would like to know who those 5-6 teams are? When was the last time they lost that many SEC games? The year after their first natty they went 12-4 and the year after they lost A’ja they went 13-3 and placed 2nd both years. Quite honestly I think they will be 5x times better then both of those teams who combined to lose 17 games both years. Not to mention the talent they’re after. If they land Paopao and Morrow they’ll be just as talented as they were a season ago. The cohesion will have to be built but I can see top 5 for them for sure.
