Transfer Portal 22-23

If it is Strickland that’s a net loss for us.

Unless she’s being added as a walk-on with the understanding she may never play, this is a terrible idea.

Just not athletic enough to play in the SEC and a waste of a roster spot for us. Pissott has 10x the potential and was 6” taller. This is like throwing a stick shift in reverse at 35 mph. for the program.

She played 20+ min in the ACC, she’s not a walking on. Potential vs experience is the difference between JP and Ace…two different players. This is good get for now and down the road to fill the void of JP not working out.

Following your train of thought, for those who think Ms Pissott entered the transfer portal because she had been "recruited over" in the portal, Strickland coming in would not, in my opinion, be the reason.

I'm thinking were just trying to get numbers now. Looks like we again can't get the top players so we just add numbers so we'll at least have some backups. I am now getting the opinion that Kellie and crew can't recruit at all. I've was really trying not to believe that then we see what she does with her roster. If we can't get some of the top players in the portal at least a couple of them were headed downward in the SEC.

No it is looking like she just didn't grow to like being at Tennessee and will probably end up closer to home.

As a Freshman slightly under our Junior starter in Tess. Her speed and athleticism is needed to help transform the team.
Strickland does not have SPEED or ATHLETICISM.... similar to DARBY maybe and I mean maybe a step quicker than TESS. Does NOT like contact. I'm not bashing the kid either its just what it is. She is a decent player but similar to what we got that we don't utilize.
TN will NOT use her mark my words!!!!

Ok! Not sure you’ve seen her play based on that. But we can disagree..nothing personal on my end

Those of you who want the top talent, get off of here, form a NIL collective and write a check! Kellie is not going to bring in kids that wont buy into the program. Nor is she going to go after these kids who are just looking to be paid rather than looking to win. I don't know who the recruit is, but I am going to sit back and trust that who is being brought in is because they are willing to buy into the program and not just looking to get paid. Take a chance, show what you can do and earn your NIL $!

Good pickup…a local kid living out her dream. Athletic kid who wants to be here, not a player looking for the highest bid.

I watched one of her best games yesterday and she’s not really athletic at all, she’s not fast and can’t jump. What she did do well was move without the ball to get open, but when she tried to dribble the ball would always get hit and she would stumble.

I've seen her play many many times. She is not fast and or Athletic like Jackson and horston
She might be a tad bit more than Darby but not much. JMO we can agree to disagree but I guarantee she won't see more mins than our reserves got. TN will NOT utilize her for what she can bring and it ISNT SPEED OR ATHLETICISM

Your opinion is correct, I watched one of her best games yesterday, she’s probably 8-9th in a rotation.

Avery Strickland

Farragut High School

Closed out her senior season averaging 17.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 48% from the floor as her squad went 28-9… Earned All-State and All-Region honors as a junior and senior while also being tabbed All-District four times during her impressive career… Named to the All-State Tournament Team after posting 31 points and nine boards in the Admirals’ state semifinal victory as a senior… Tabbed First Team Knox News All-PrepXtra as a junior and senior while also being named Tennessee high school Player of the Year following her junior campaign (2021)… Also earned All-State honors in softball in 2021 and Track & Field in 2022.

As a Freshman at Pitt, 115 of her 183 attempts were from 3 point range, and she averaged 33.9% from 3 point range. In 30 games, Ace averaged only one turnover per game, but only took 16 free throws, of which she made half.

If Avery is coming, I welcome her. It’s entirely possible she will show the Sophomore jump in production, once she acclimates to the Lady Vol team, that we have seen other players make from their Freshman to Sophomore years.

One thing I would love to know about the current situation is - what if any impact is NIL having on these efforts to sign players? A few of our more connected posters have intimated that the powers that be went big on Rickea Jackson's NIL deal, but in turn, there might not be a lot left in the tank for other NIL situations. I've wondered if that's part of why we're seeing some of these big portal names show interest but then go elsewhere. Is there a gap in NIL capacity that's impacting these portal efforts? Or is it not a question of NIL opportunities, but rather other factors such as recruiting ability, or program reputation, or whatever. I do wish we knew more about that.

If u are a top player a company will pay u, that’s the bottom line, it doesn’t matter the school u are at.

Strickland is comparable to Darby, but we need to get away from players like that. We need some elite players you can't win a National Championship with the type of players were getting. They can't guard anybody. They may score a few points, but give up more than they score.

Our staff shouldn’t do the whole “hinting” when recruits visit if they aren’t going to close the deal.

It’s not cute for a program to lead fans on and then sign sub par players. If we had several quality transfers visit and end up signing only Strickland this week it is a disappointment and embarrassing.

Definitely not deserving of a “BOOM” from coach and making people wait to see who it is.

If it’s Boyd I would be pleased. If it’s who I think it is, not so much.

That doesn't answer a single thing about what I said, and doesn't give me any insight into the NIL situation at Tennessee. How do you know it "doesn't matter?" And if it didn't matter, why would people be mentioning the strategy around putting a lot of the available money into helping Rickea return? Moreover, if it didn't matter, thn why did we all hear about UConn outbidding Tennessee for Ashlynn Shade? Why didn't we just counter their offer?

NIL is playing a huge factor, we saw it with two high school recruits in 2023, they came to see what we had to offer and threw out some numbers and then took it to the other program and got more $ there and both players ended up signing with the other program.

NIL is not created equal. What one state/school can offer, many others can not. Also some states allow the schools (coaches) to facilitate and help fundraise but can not personally donate funds, doesn't mean it wont stop some of them donating money on behalf of a charity they are connected to.

A lot of the things some of the posters on here want Kellie to do to land some of these players, she is just not going to jeopardize the programs integrity to do so and I don't blame her.
