Transfer Portal 22-23

You are not saying much in that statement ."faster than Darby ".In your opinion is she SEC caliber player and will she start for Lady Vols and make a positive contribution to success ?
She might start because we don’t have much else to go with, but I don’t think she will make an impact in the Sec.

She will not start, Darby will,,,,{Coach K hates change}

My take,,,,Ace is a full-on Alpha. Yes, she is an SEC caliber player and her upside is greater (in my estimation) than what we have now, as she is a much better driver. (and if given the time to grow, she WILL). Ace will be a perfect compliment to Kea as they both have no fear and both play best when they are in control of their surroundings. Both Kea and Ace play their best when they have no constraints on their court/game. Just like JH,,,Often times this season, I wrote "Let Jordan(Horston) be Jordan",,,ala "Let Manny be Manny"

This mantra fits both Ace and Kea as well.

As I watched the game (Pitt v Miami-from another thread) I saw Ace go to the baseline and stand waiting for a feed. That is not her game at all. The Ace I coached is a top of the arc player who can take defenders, off the dribble consistently and finishes good with contact...But will Coach K let her do that?

Therein is my fear, to let players have freedom on the floor,, is to let go of control from the bench,,, and I don't see that happening with this staff.

Thanks.I truly hope you are right on with that analysis and she does make a lasting contribution with the Lady Vols.

Right now were sitting fifth in the conference just on what has happened with the portal. Ole Miss and Texas A&M have added some elite talent along with a top rated freshman class for A&M. Then you have SC and LSU who are far and away ahead of everybody. No one else in the conference has done much so we'll see where it goes from here. Georgia had a fairly large amount of talented returning players so they didn't need to add much.

South Carolina fans seeing Van Lith on a visit to LSU...

If Darby is starting again and playing as many minutes as she did this past season, then the coaches did not do their jobs this off season, thus wasting the talents of Jackson.

I think Tess has started because she's a high IQ bball player, shoots well, and has definitely gotten better at defense. A huge jump in that area, but it will never be enough to keep SEC guards in front of her. So, to me, it's up to the other players to add more to the game in practices to outweigh Tess's contributions as a starter. With that said, we can't overlook the fact that merely having her on the floor keeps a defender from doubling post players. this stuff doesn't show up on stat sheets, but her teammates have had some easier looks at the basket b/c the defense can't leave Tess open. this could be even more important next year when teams will want to double or triple team Key when she touches the ball.

The double teams come at Rickea since she’s our only go to scorer, that’s why we needed another one. I’m still holding out hope we get one, as long as good players are still in the portal we have a chance.

So what do you think about Wells. yes she is shorter but she has shown the ability to score and score against power 5 teams other than us

I love her game. I don’t actually think we need much scoring from the portal. Jackson and Wells can score the ball. If we can get 8-12 from Key, Darby Puckett we will be in good shape scoring.

For me the glaring issue is rebounding and perimeter defense so far we haven’t met that need. So either we are going to have to team rebound way better and play a lot of matchup zone or we will be adding one or two more athletic players.

Still think Celeste Taylor is one of the best available for what we need.

I could be wrong but I’ve watched a few of her games now but I don’t think she will be much of a scorer in big games for us. If u look how she moves with the ball it’s just like Powell I don’t see great handles to be able to create space since she smaller, and I don’t see great shot making, but she is quick so that could help but for me I look for more in a guard. I do hope I’m wrong and she can give us around 20ppg in the big games especially.

As far as scoring, we don't need alot. In addition to the players you listed there's also Jill. I expect her to be at least a 10ppg player. What we do need on offense though is at least a credible 3 pt shooter. I really like Taylor for her D and rebounding, but she's not much of a shooter.

Seems like the freaking portal is just crawling this year. Everyone is dragging it out, no one commits right after their visit. I just hope we get some visits next week fm some quality portal prospects.

I know right!
I guess this open portal thing is as new to the ballers as it is to the rest of the world
