Transfer portal discussion

NOW THIS IS A 1 Year guy I'd be very interested in.

I was listening to an interview with Max Olsen from The Athletic and Armstrong was mentioned. He said he felt like he would get a lot of interest from lots of Power 5 schools, mentioning Notre Dame and Tennessee by name.

I would think a guy who covers CFB nationally would be aware Milton is on the roster, given Milton has started games for us and transferred in from Michigan. This leads me to think the perception is already out there Milton isn't going to be the answer next year. Just a guess on my part.

Actually these national guys
usually don't have a clue about depth charts unless they follow a school exclusively.

Man I get the eyes for talent, but I am really hesitant on bringing in anybody from A&M with the toxicity of that program right now- including all the locker room stuff. Fair or not I'd be cautious.
100% fair statement. That said, I’m sure it was an eye opening experience for them. I’m all for taking them if Heupels eval says they’re coming out of there with the right attitude (despite whatever their attitude was when they decided to go there).

It will depend on the eligibility and perceived prowess of any additional QB that actually gets into the short straws. Adding a schollie worthy backup grad type willing to take a shot with CJH would be just that. I will be surprised if any starter worthy guys with multiple years are going to show up to fight through Milton (bowl performance dependent) and get ahead of Nico if he indeed is scheduled here for spring practice. By mid season Nico might be emergency ready and experience for 24' would be hard to step away from if he is indeed the future and Milton is injured or not the answer. SO.... I will not be surprised if we dance with a few, but don't see trigger pulling till after the bowl and I believe there is a 45 day window starting next week and then another 2 week period in early May to accommodate post spring flight.

This will of course allow every school to attempt to get back to a more balanced 85 for the fall. The brave new world of roster management in the portal era. I am not going to get wound up about any lack of closure on another QB till after the bowl game, even through the wailing, moaning, and gnashing of teeth I anticipate by some on this board as some guys come off the board. We are one injury away from REAL early season questions at QB till after spring. If Nico is a fast learner and diligent at the training table and in the weight room getting a real quality guy will be tougher as they perform their own risk/reward analysis. But wanting to play for a QB whisperer might help us here.

Best case scenario for QB from portal to TN.

Have 2-3 years eligibility and come in w/ proven starter mentality and tools.

He should be given the opportunity to compete for starting position w/ Milton.

This would allow for "best man wins" the QB job and carryover for continued competition at the position - Hype isn't going to just roll the ball over to the next guy and say "it's your position" hopefully.

Competition allows for continued improvement and this is not unlike all the positions on the field - you gotta earn it and the players generally respect that because they know who deserves to start.

I mean, if I were the HC this would be the approach.

Maybe that HC job at UC needs me as an interview candidate, right?

Winning cures most problems like that. I don’t think the issue started in the locker room but it developer because of the losing, and the losing started because they have a stubborn coach that refuses to change his offense.
These type of players surrounded by an established good culture will be fine. Again though, the key is to keep winning.

"Culture" has changed in every locker room, forever, with NIL. Already seen it with Banks. And that's the only one we know of.

I know........Some have been getting paid forever. But, not with the amounts out in public and the ability to flaunt it.

Good point with Banks. Winning usually cures all but to your point, NIL has changed how everything is handled. Adapt or die.
At some point though, college teams can be looked at like everyone else in life, those that are more talented and provide more value will get paid more. If I get paid less than my coworker but he provides more value, I can always go somewhere else but doesn’t mean someone else is going to pay me what he makes. College football is a microcosm of a capitalist economy. The best companies typically pay well but what keeps people around is the culture, not the pay. Doesn’t mean you won’t have people quit for more money, but from a macro point of view, culture will sustain over more money.

Are you still on Banks? The only people who know what happened are not talking. Heupel will not allow it to get out and I think that's a good thing. In the absence of credible information, people just make sh^t up

If the rumors are true that Deion Sanders are leaving, I wonder if we have a chance at any of the big recruits like Travis Hunter or Kevin Coleman.

I'm not dwelling on it, but there was an altercation. That is a fact.
I just believe that there will be more of them..........at all schools.
