Transfer portal discussion

The one that hurts is JWT. I think it actually was a detriment to him having all the fan fare in the spring from a perception standpoint. It's hard for a lot of guys to go from being THE guy in high school, to being at the bottom of the depth chart in college. I'm sure coming out of Spring practice, he thought he'd definitely be in the rotation. Sampson came in and immediately surpassed him in the fall. Some guys thrive on adversity and competition, others wither in self pity. The kid has the physical talent. I hope he matures mentally and has a great career somewhere.
This appears to be a perfect example of someone with serious talent being in the portal. Some narrow-minded people think the portal is gonna be full of guys who can't play football at a high level. Just remember we got Hendon Hooker from the portal. Guys are in the portal for any number of reasons and I'm sure our coaches will pull the ones they need to help make UT better.

It will depend on the eligibility and perceived prowess of any additional QB that actually gets into the short straws. Adding a schollie worthy backup grad type willing to take a shot with CJH would be just that. I will be surprised if any starter worthy guys with multiple years are going to show up to fight through Milton (bowl performance dependent) and get ahead of Nico if he indeed is scheduled here for spring practice. By mid season Nico might be emergency ready and experience for 24' would be hard to step away from if he is indeed the future and Milton is injured or not the answer. SO.... I will not be surprised if we dance with a few, but don't see trigger pulling till after the bowl and I believe there is a 45 day window starting next week and then another 2 week period in early May to accommodate post spring flight.

This will of course allow every school to attempt to get back to a more balanced 85 for the fall. The brave new world of roster management in the portal era. I am not going to get wound up about any lack of closure on another QB till after the bowl game, even through the wailing, moaning, and gnashing of teeth I anticipate by some on this board as some guys come off the board. We are one injury away from REAL early season questions at QB till after spring. If Nico is a fast learner and diligent at the training table and in the weight room getting a real quality guy will be tougher as they perform their own risk/reward analysis. But wanting to play for a QB whisperer might help us here.
I think everyone at UT knows you need more than just a starting QB on the team. Every team is just an injury away from going from the penthouse to the outhouse with an injury to your starter-----that applies to every position on the team unless you're 3 deep with 4 and 5 stars. Very few teams have that luxury.

I just want some defensive backs and linebackers that don't try rolling somebody up or arm tackle.

He got passed up by Dylan Sampson that came in later than him. Stars don’t always equal success
