I'm of the opinion JJJ is too passive to ever be a great player

I’d changed that to great scorer and agree. A guy who can play 1-3 and even the 4 and pull down rebounds, get assist, steals, and do so without getting into foul trouble why also blocking shots is a great player.

But he’s never aggressive enough to be a great scorer.

Interesting. If Timme is back and Holmgren signs with the Zags, would be surprised to see Kessler there. Who knows.

Noah Gurley averaged something like 14pts and 8 rebounds a game in THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE. I don’t know if he’s a home run get....

If Gardner is not a take over concerns about his height why is Gurley a take? He's listed as 1 inch taller. His scoring and rebounding numbers are less against a lesser schedule. He does look springier on video. Maybe it's his ability to shoot the 3. He made 38 this year.

Has someone called him a home run get?

I think he’d be a solid get, and judging by some of his suitors Tennessee isn’t the only one that feels he can bring something to the table...he’s a solid 4 man, small ball 5 that is athletic and can block some shots and also step out and hit the 3 ball. Against P5 competition he has shown pretty well so that’s a positive too.

I think because the staff sees Gurley as able to play the 4 while Gardner would be a 5

I would have thought Gardner would play the 4, or could. In his highlight vid he makes 150 field goals. On 80 of them he receives the ball more than 12 feet from the basket and either makes a jumper or drives and scores. I wonder what tools he lacks to play the 4?

Gurley is definitely an SEC caliber front court player. I watched Furman play at Alabama early in the season at Tuscaloosa and they led the Tide for almost the entire game but Tide pulled it out late. Gurley was very impressive in that game and remember thinking he was a legit SEC level player.

Doesn’t shoot the 3 ball, in today’s game most coaches want at least a threat from 3 at the 4.

A frequent caller on TB called in last week who has seen Gardner play many times. Said he is another Aniosike. Not athletic and can’t jump. Plus he is not 6’7

Well our current offense isn't from today's era, so shouldn't be an issue here.

Gonzaga is playing for the national championship as a low volume 3 point shooting team and one that runs through the post. So, I guess it does work.

I believe they also tried to run some dribble, drive concepts later in the year for Springer and Johnson. Calipari is the one that made that more known bringing it from Memphis. He will still use it some based on his personnel.

Bad example, since they also score nearly 92 a game (almost 20 points more than we averaged). Also a misleading stat, they were 59th in the country in total 3pt shots taken, but 277th in % of 3pt shots taken. So it seems like they take plenty based on totals, but because they shoot so many 2pt shots it drives the 3pt % of shots taken down. They were also extremely efficient from 3 at 37% which was 45th in the country.

Has Arkansas literally contacted all 1,200+ players in the portal? Feels that way.

Definitely casts a wide net. Musselman was asked about this the other day and said a lot of it is smokescreens and they only have a select few that they really want and sometimes they prefer it to be under the radar so other teams don't know who they're really after.

He said he was on Zoom calls with portal players from like 6:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. the next day one day last week...ridiculous.

I don't view it as a bad example simply because they score more. I can't say that I've watched them a whole lot, and they seem to play more pick and roll. But, we can point to Gonzaga as a winner for those that want to point to analytics and "modern offenses." They do run, but Timme is a dominant post player, and they run alot through him. Attached is an article early in the year about the offense running through him.

That 59th rank stat is current when they have played multiple games more than many other teams. Per averages, Alabama shot 30 per game while Gonzaga has shot 20.4. They are 138th in three's made per game. One player (Kispert) makes their % go way up as he shoots at a 44.5% clip and shot at least double of any other player. Suggs is the only other player that shoots above 35% from three and is a big contributor (one guy shoots 39% but averages 7 minutes per game). I would guess that they are efficient (really Kispert) because Timme takes alot of the attention in the post.

Drew Timme is making Gonzaga’s offense look good - The Slipper Still Fits
