Transfer Portal Thread

Last year when the season started and they were coming off the bench. You said the staff expected them to start at some point. Sooner than later. So I’m curious if it would be the same situation where we start the guys who are familiar w the offense and then work in the freshman to give some time before he’s starting

I think you’ve got the wrong guy, I was one of the posters pushing Bailey and Vescovi early in the year when we were playing well and the 2 freshman were coming off the bench.

Again though, on last years team we didn’t have a PG sitting there on the bench, at best we had a combo guard more of a 2 guard in Springer...Chandler is considered the #1 PG in the nation for a reason, I would be absolutely floored (barring injury) if he wasn’t our Game 1 starting PG. The staff knows Vescovi isn’t the answer at starting PG, they also know he’ll likely be better off the ball, they will enter the off season preparing that way.

Would you not be surprised if Vescovi is the starting PG for at least the first couple games? Then see Chandler take over at some point? Similar to how both Springer and Chandler started the year coming off the bench.
I'd be shocked if he wasn't immediately the starter at PG. Anything else is simply delaying the inevitable and retarding his growth and learning curve. Hopefully that is something Barnes learned from not playing KJ and Springer more, early on.

That’s the only reason I bring it up because those guys didn’t start. Of course it is a bit different as he will be the only true PG on the roster as of now. But would think in those early games SV is still very capable of running point.

I misremembered. I was thinking about this post and it was in response to something someone reposted from VQ.
Same thought still applies, I’ve never stated he has to start all 25 games...I claimed he should start at beginning of the year, that was it. If Springer and Johnson move into that spot I’ve got no issue with it, again, I think they’ll all continue to get minutes.

KJ and Springer, as well as last year's team also missed a ton of camp/practice prior to the season with COVID. I think one or both may have won the starting job had that not occurred.

Chandler will likely win the PG job before the start of the season.

I wonder if the Powell news will move the needle for some of our other transfer targets. Chandler and Powell plus our returning players has to be an appealing situation for a big man.

I'd like to land some size now - a transfer PF and C. Or if BHH reclassified the opposite of what he would normally play. I would guess that would make Wahab a primary target. Having him would create better competition for Uros in practice as well to learn something.

If Wahab goes elsewhere I hope we go after Jonas Aidoo hard. He seems so athletic for a 7 footer.

This transfer pool stuff has gotten so ridiculous this year that I'm not familiar with him. I'll have to look him up.

However someone mentioned Kessler. I would love to get in there.

I don’t know why Kessler wouldn’t want to come and play with Powell and Chandler.

Think we may play him as a wing? I’m still optimistic about what another year will do for Vescovi and him able to focus more on playing 2. Also Bailey showed some great flashes. For a while was our leading and most efficient scorer but obviously went through some slumps. If he can gain some more consistency I like his potential in his senior year as well. Still unsure what our front court looks like but right now I could envision going small and JJJ playing some 4 and Fulk or whoever at 5.
