you think that if someone questions the talent around here that they are all-negavol. you think we should just chill out and trust the coaches. i bet you said the same thing when dooley didnt sign one OL for an entire recruiting season. probably said "he knows what he is doing". there is nothing wrong with the way that people feel about the state of UT recruiting and transfer portal right now. Spyre claims to be the top collective around, and thats the way they present theirself, but they have not lived up to that this year. you can sing their praises, but 8th in the SEC and no real movement to try to get top tier transfers added to an 8-4 season leads to more 8-4. And I will save you the trouble and say it for you..."you negavols should be happy we are 8-4. i bet you would have been happy if you were 8-4 in a season over the last 20 years"You read my post and decided it said what now?
And hunters slaughter baby seals every season...but NOT COMPLETELY.The one thing I'm growing concerned about that has been mentioned on this board by others as well, is Heupel's loyalty to current players.
Kiffin will go out and recruit guys regardless of who is still on his roster. For example he went out and signed Spenser Sanders last year as a grad transfer after starting 4 years at Oklahoma State as well as a former 5 star QB in Walker Howard despite having their starter, Jaxson Dart returning last year too. When questioned about the ethics of bringing all these guys in, he just responded that the goal of his as head coach was to make the team better and improve the QB room.
And now yet again, he isn't afraid to go after the top portal transfers. This after telling the media after the Ole Miss loss to Georgia that his roster wasn't good enough to compete.
I am noy completely bashing the loyal, familial culture Heupel has built, but it has negatives with the positives and maybe he needs to give a little more.
According to VQ the issue is 2 parts.
1. Guys learning on the job in the SEC. Like Alec this year and Kelsey Pope last year.
2. Our board is not wide enough to offset misses.
We put too many eggs in too few baskets and had
underexperienced guys take some lumps.
Josh likes to promote from within and it may work, but we've had growing pains. TE is the best example this year and WR (one take) was a good example last year.
And I've acknowledged why we aren't pursuing Nolen ourselves. You questioned if OM was truly swinging hard. I showed you they are. Now you're moving the goalposts to "Yeah, but who will they land?". No idea who they'll actually get, but they're pursuing top talent.
It's interesting that Athlon is reporting OM is joined by Bama, Georgia, and Texas in pursuing Tyler Baron. If true, he's more highly thought of than many of us give him credit for.
I don’t think it’s that Tennessee doesn’t think highly of him. It’s that we don’t want to pay whatever obscene NIL he is apparently hunting for. There is difference, IMO. Clearly, he is a good player. But we have a lot of young talent that has the potential to be as good if not better and isn’t making demands of our staff.
I’m just convinced he truly doesn’t want to be a Vol considering this is twice now he’s been in the portal.
The NIL seems like an excuse.
