Transfer Rumours

She wasn't guarding guards though. She was guarding the three and sometimes the four. Even then the forward was too fast and the pf too physical for her. Let her shadow Jas for summer and learn to play defense from her.

I think Warlick was exhorting Dunbar to be a better rebounder, thinking she could be utilized similarly to how Abby Conklin and Sidney Spencer were utilized respectively.

I think Dunbar has the capability to be on the same caliber as Spencer. Just remember that Sidney wasn't a very good defender as a freshman.

Aren't Nared and Russell close and from the same area? I'd think they'd be excited to play together.

At some point this year Cooper will be starting at pg. With the loss of the three seniors, who carried the bulk of the offense, DeShields is going to have to stay on the court a lot. Depending on whether DeShields plays the 2 or 3, either Carter or Nared is going to sit a lot. My guess is that Diamond plays the wing so that means Nared is looking at being her sub for the next 2 or 3 years.

With the talent that we have this coming year, anybody could start.

Tennessee hasn't been in this type of situation since 2008 and we had a different coach. If Holly goes with the same mindset up CPS, then I think we will see a consistent line-up all year, but anybody who makes a mistake is going to sit, because we have the talented bench to replace anybody on the floor.

We will be able to sub at every position and still be talented. I'm a little worried about the 5, but as a coach, speed usually beats height. Going up agaisnt SC, why wouldn't you full court pressure them with Carter, Cooper, Deshields, Graves, and Nared? Those players LOVE to hustle and be all over the floor and cause chaos. Who cares if they have all three 6'4 players on the floor at once, none of them can truly dribble and match the speed of us. My main point on this, is the loaded options we can put out there.

I can even see Dunbar getting a consistence 10 minutes a game. With Deshields and Cooper who are both penetrators, you have to have a 3 point shooter on the wing (like a Spencer).

I have been reading some other team-specific wcbb blogs of top 10 womens programs, and they all agree this is our best team since 2008 and since 2000, the 2nd best team. If we get Akhator, I will completely agree.

If the players put in the work this summer and prove they can be a reliable player to count on, then nobody should be wanting to transfer because the opportunity will be there.

Too many quick, athletic guards on this team for next year. If your not delusional, then you would see several girls never getting to play for the rest of their careers. They have to decide whether sitting on the bench at U.T.(being fan favorites) is their dream or playing for another school and actually getting to play in their final years is more important.
There is NO WAY 2 of these girls will or should be playing at this level. It was apparent last year and you just have to write it off as bad recruiting. Some girls get in a good situation in high school and it makes them look better than they actually are......some schools saw it but apparently Tennessee didn't........... I see 2 transferring (one this year and maybe one next year)

what do you mean "no way"? has Tn gone a year without losing players to injury? Suspensions? illness? etc etc. Sitting on the bench at the start doesn't always have to mean you're stuck there.... unless Holly really is clueless.

Not athletic enough. Not skilled enough... Not SEC caliber..........That's what I meant by NO WAY.

We'll have three or four players sitting the bench this season when the SEC season starts. I see a rotation of Graves, Russell, hopefully Akhator, Deshields, Cooper, Jones, Nared, Reynolds, Middleton, and Jackson.

Dunbar, Moore,Tucker unless she is healthy will be on the bench. A healthy Tucker pushes Middleton or Jackson to the bench. If you play more than nine or ten players you will never get consistency. I think nine is ideal.

Moore is going to get playing time. She provided a lot of relief minutes, and she will be a senior. She will see the court. Bash & Mercedes can't play every minute, and don't need to. Don't be so quick to judge KD. A summer in the weight room does wonders for freshmen. Two words: Sidney Spencer.

Agree about playing more than 10 leading to a lack of consistency . If we don't land Akhator then Moore will play.
But that still leaves Carter, Reynolds, Cooper, Jackson and Middleton in the backcourt if DD plays the wing.
If Diamond does play wing then Nared will be left with at most 15 mins per game.
As you probably noticed, I haven't included Tucker in this at all. If she stays, that would be 6 in the backcourt.

Carter has got to learn to be a scorer......She is a sweet young lady, but half the game is offense. Her confidence as a shooter has been suspect......She needs to put a lot of time in the gym working on her shot.

The reason Carter will get a lot of playing time is she is such a tenacious defender which Holly values most.

Some comments:

I prefer a coach to pick a rotation of 8 players and play the starters as much as possible with minimal relief from the other 3. That will maximize efficiency IMO. The other players get to sit on the bench. It's a tough world. The sooner they figure out they have to earn their PT the better off they'll be. If they don't play better than the first 8, why should they play at all. If that means transfers so be it.

Next, I have read and heard references for years of all the individual drills the players do. I have always thought this mostly (not totally) a waste of limited time. Scrimmage full court as much as possible. That is the best and maybe the only way to hone a player's basketball instincts. This is especially true on the offensive side of the ball. This means at least 10 able-bodied and roughly equally-skilled players. Transfers out of the program cause harm to this objective.

Lastly, I am not a fan of a full court press. Opponents that are roughly equal in talent, well-drilled, know what they are doing, (and I'll add tall), are not bothered by a press. I will be mildy surprised if SC is bothered at all by any pressure we bring in the back court. I don't think they were bothered this past season. SC's tall players can move very well. Was Candace Parker bothered by opponents pressure? Not at all or very little IMO. Against well-drilled teams back court pressure is best used sparingly as a surprise move and even then it may not be effective.

All my opinion of course and no I'm not a coach and I'm not channeling Holly.

I would like to see CHW go with a bigger bench Jeff,we have seen what a couple of injuries can do late in a season, pick up a couple of project players, get em some game time experience when you can

that way when the injuries happen, there will be a couple of players experienced at what CHW is wanting to do,instead of a backup player get ran into the ground with no relief in sight
